Review: Burqalicious - The Dubai Diaries - Becky Wicks - February 2011
Becky Wicks, a Londoner freelance writer for a Travel and Entertainment.com recieved in 2007 the opportunity of a lifetime , go to Dubai as a freelance travel writer. So off she went , with her suitcase in hand to a country that she definitely didn't pack the right clothes for, land of the stifling heat. Burqualicious tells the story of Becky's two years and reveals tales of a day out with the ladies at a Water Park andthe fact that their swimming outfits resembles more Melbourne Cup than Waterworld and by wearing a bikini - it looks like you have turned up in undergraments alone to scouring the shops of Dubai for a packet of tampons as the local shop only sold sanitary towels which were big enough to be nappies. We read about the different housing situations of Becky and her friend Sarah, especially the Iranian Inventor who insisted on calling Becky , Backy . We read as Becky dates herself around the men of Dubai and ends up in the arms of a wealthy but jealous Arab man. A Fun tale of one women's journey from the life as an Englisher to being dumped in the middle of Dubai- a completely different world.
Burqalicious will have you laughing your way through and thinking Becky , I'm glad it's you not me. Though as we come into Winter in New Zealand, Im envious of the nice though stifling weather that Becky had in Dubai.
