Review: Article 5 - Kristen Simmons

On the lookout for a new Dystopian Novel ? One that unlike the rest of the dystopian fiction at the end , had not just a happy ending ?
Review: Article 5 - Book #1 Article 5 Series - Kristen Simmons-January 2012
When I started reading Article 5 , I wasn't too sure what to expect but I can tell you if you are expecting a nice gentle dystopian novel , then this is not the book for you.  Forget the themes of Delirium , Divergent , The Selection , Wither.  Think more along the lines of The Hunger Games, The Hunt and The Maze Runner. The type of book where though the character has escaped , it's still gloom for them and they are on the run for survival and they better not stop for rest as if they do, they are certainly headed towards death.
Article 5 features a new world filled with Morals and Codes , the Soldiers are called the Moral Militia and anything going against their standards, they will arrest you. When a new Article is brought in about all families must consist of a husband, wife and child and no child should be born out of wedlock , it causes a whole lot of mothers and daughters to be separated and the mothers sent to be executed and the daughters placed in reform juvie halls.  Ember Miller's mother has been arrested under Article #5 and now in order to save her, Ember must escape the school . However, this won't be an easy task as it is heavily guarded . Enter Chase , when he and Ember were younger the two were inseparable until Chase became Ember's mothers arresting officer. Now Chase has to prove his loyalty to Ember and show he cares by helping her escape and find her mother.
It will be a bumpy and action packed road for Chase and Ember as they come across countless close calls along their journey. Will Chase and Ember ever be free of the world they live in ?
Article 5 reminded me alot of a teenage version of Margaret Atwood's novel "The Handmaid's Tale" and of the film Equilibrium.
A novel that all will enjoy and I look forward to reading more adventures of Ember and Chase.

  1. This sounds great! I loved The Hunger Games and I love dystopian novels.
