Review: Following Maggie - Melanie Moreland

Review: Following Maggie - Book #7 Insta-Spark Collection - Melanie Moreland - April 2022

Y'all, sometimes you need to step away from the serial killers and psychological mind games (looking at you, thriller TBR pile!) and dive headfirst into something that'll make your heart do little happy flips. Following Maggie was exactly the palate cleanser my book-loving soul needed.

Picture this: You're stuck at an airport because Mother Nature decided to throw the snowstorm of the century. Sounds miserable, right? Wrong! Not when you're Maggie, who's dealing with the heavy stuff—both parents gone, inheriting a property that needs more TLC than a rescue puppy—and you bump into Sebastian Ruggers. This guy is literally walking toward a life he doesn't want, trading his music dreams for a soul-crushing office job because daddy dearest thinks following your passion is just "foolish dreaming."

What starts as an airport #meetcute (and honestly, who doesn't love a good stranded-by-weather romance?) becomes this beautiful exploration of taking chances when life gives you the perfect moment. Sebastian and Maggie spend one incredible day and night together, and when she heads off to deal with her inherited property, he makes the most wonderfully impulsive decision—he follows her.

Can we talk about how refreshing it is when instalove actually feels believable? These two don't just fall hard; they fall smart. Sebastian isn't just running from his old life; he's running toward something real with someone who sees him for who he truly is, music dreams and all.

The small-town setting is like wrapping yourself in the coziest blanket. But here's the plot twist that had me literally squealing: Sebastian discovers he has family he never knew existed! Turns out dear old dad disowned his half-brother and that whole side of the family. So not only does our boy get the girl, but he gets a whole found family situation that'll make you believe in serendipity again.

Melanie Moreland has this gift for creating characters who feel like people you'd actually want to grab coffee with. Maggie's strength in handling her grief while embracing new possibilities is beautifully written, and Sebastian's journey from reluctant son to confident man following his heart? Chef's kiss

If you're in the mood for a quick, feel-good read that proves sometimes the best things happen when you're willing to take a leap of faith, Following Maggie is calling your name. Fair warning: you might find yourself booking unnecessarily long layovers, just in case.
