Review: A Tempest of Tea - Hafsah Faizal

Review: A Tempest of Tea - Book #1 Blood and Tea Series - Hafsah Faizal - February 2024 A Tempest of Tea by Hafsah Faizal is a whirlwind of steampunk vibes, danger, and deceit, with a twist of romance and intrigue that will keep you hooked from start to finish. Set in the vibrant city of White Roaring, the story centers on Arthie Casimir, a criminal mastermind who runs a seemingly innocent tearoom by day, which secretly transforms into an underground bloodhouse catering to the city's feared vampires by night. When her empire is at risk, Arthie must forge an unlikely alliance with a dangerous adversary to protect her world—one that balances precariously between the living and the undead. Faizal’s world-building is exceptional. Picture the elegance and intrigue of The Parasol Protectorate series combined with the high-stakes action of Heist Royale, and you’ll get a glimpse into the dazzling yet perilous life of White Roaring. Arthie is a force to be reckoned with, balancing power, wi...

Review: Lies I Told - Book #1 Lies I Told Series - Michelle Zink - April 2015 During the last three months, I have been trying to clear my bookshelf of my print books as it was starting to pile up. Lies I Told by Michelle Zink was a book that I got given in a book exchange earlier this year from @novelnotes over on Instagram. In this book, we meet Grace Fontaine and her adopted brother Parker. They were both brought up in the foster system and now live as a family unit. Their family though is not like others, but it is the best one that either of them has had. The Fontaines are a family of con artists and grifters, they move from town to town with a new job and a new mark. This latest job though has left Grace feeling a bit uneasy and is about to be the downfall of the Fontaine family unit. The family has settled in Playa Hermosa with a new target - a family that has 20 million dollars in gold bars. What happens though when cracks start to show in the family from Pa...

Review: Heist - Ivy Nelson

Image
Review: Heist - Book #2 Diamond Doms Series - Ivy Nelson - February 2020 I had enjoyed Book #1 which was the introduction of the Sutton Adults - Holly and Patrick Sutton and then Holly's meeting of Eli Barrett who turned out to be her dad – Nicholas Sutton’s competitor and her brother's business partner and also Eli and her brother had a side career at Club Solitaire as Dom’s. I found Book #1 easy to read and I loved the character of Holly. As I enjoyed Book #1 Blood, I was looking forward to Book #2 and with a title - Heist. I thought this was going to be just as good or even better. However, for me this one I struggled with as it took me in increments over three days to read which is slow for me but I got about 57% through the book, so I decided to persevere rather than give up. I did manage to finish it and it was a good read with a bit of predictability when the true villain was revealed near the end. Book #2 tells the story of Patrick Sutton and Austin Yates.  There has be...
