The To-Do List for a Happy Life

In today’s hectic world, we are consumed with to-do lists that have the ability to keep us so busy that on some days it feels impossible to even find the time to brush our teeth, let alone stop for a breath.  And when life gets that crazy, we often forget about doing things that make life really worth living.  So instead of jotting down a never-ending list compiled of things like “pick up milk, drop off dry-cleaning, and schedule bikini wax,” create a to-do list that will spark true happiness.  Here are a few simple items to cross off your list:

#1:  Think positively.  It’s amazing how much better life can get when you just change around your thinking a little bit.  If you walk around with a negative attitude and a frown on your face then that’s all that you are bound to attract.  So rather than focusing on your misfortunes with the mindset that everything sucks, look on the bright side and think about the things around you that are pretty awesome—when you embrace the blessings in your life, that positivity will emit from within you and impact on everyone you encounter!

#2:  Network.  If you’re at a place where you are unhappy with your job and would like to revamp your professional life, one of the best methods for doing that is through networking.  You know how they say, “It’s all about who you know?”—well, it many cases, that saying holds very true.  Reach out to friends, friends of friends, and other acquaintances to dish out your resume and network your way to success!

#3:  Exercise daily.  Not only does exercise promote a healthy lifestyle and trimmer physique, but exercise also promotes a healthy mind.  No matter how busy you are, set aside some time each day to get your fitness on and you’ll be amazed at how much better you feel physically, mentally and emotionally. 

#4:  Stay strong.  Life has a tendency to throw us curveballs from time to time and it can be easy to fall apart when it feels like your world is.  But when things aren’t looking so bright, be brave and trust that the hard times will pass—and you will be sure to emerge from the situation stronger than ever before.  Just hold your head up and never give up without a fight.

#5:  Worry less.  What point is there in dwelling on something that happened in the past or hasn’t even happened yet?  When you sit around worrying about yesterday or even tomorrow, you are missing out on all the wonderful things you have going on today!  Life is short, so live in the present and forget what you have no control over or can’t change.

#6: Read more.  When you’ve had a long day and are ready to get home and relax, why not put down the remote and pick up a book instead?  Reading can be great therapy and an activity that provides more value than gluing yourself to the TV and obsessing over what the Kardashians are wearing or who’s fighting with who on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. 

#7:  Work hard.  If you’ve ever heard the sayings, “Nothing good in life ever comes easy,” or “No pain, no gain,” they are ones to which you should really listen.  No matter what you are working at, give it your all and you are sure to reap the benefits of success—even if your plan doesn’t turn out the way you wanted to, at least you will feel the satisfaction of knowing that you tried.

#8:  Volunteer.  One of the best items you can add to your to-do list is volunteering.  Donating your time will not only change the life of someone who needs your help, but it will change yours when you know you are making a difference in the world.  Check in your area for charities or organizations that are looking for volunteers and select one that holds special meaning to you.

#9:  Relax.  When you’re constantly on the go, sometimes you may forget to take a little time for you.  Spoiling yourself with a massage, a hot bath or even simply sitting alone in silence for ten minutes can be all you need to relax, feel refreshed and ready to take on the world again.

#10:  Love.  Like Eden Ahbez once said, “The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”  And because love is so powerful, it’s amazing the impact that three simple words can have on a person—so never pass up an opportunity to tell someone you love them. 

#11:  Be happy.  When it comes down to it, life is too short—so why be anything but happy?
