Review: Venomous by Nicole M. Rubino

Review: Venomous - Book #2 Monstrous Series - Nicole M. Rubino - October 2024 Some books sit on your Kindle for years before the right moment finally comes along to read them. Venomous by Nicole M. Rubino was one of those books for me. I’d had this one sitting on my Kindle for a couple of years, but it was an August reading challenge that finally gave me the push I needed. One of the prompts was for a mythology retelling, and I immediately knew this was going to be the perfect choice. Sometimes a reading challenge really does know what you need to pick up next! After surviving her first year at Alystair University, Rhiannon is barely holding things together. She is plagued by nightmares that blur the boundaries between dreams and reality, while the guilt of the friends she failed to protect continues to weigh heavily on her. Then there is Nick. Believing that letting him go was the only way to keep him safe, Rhiannon soon discovers that her plan has spectacularly backfired as Nick’s o...

Review: His In The Dark - Willow Winters

Review: His In The Dark - Willow Winters - January 2025 Dark, seductive, and laced with mythology, His In The Dark by Willow Winters is an enthralling retelling of the classic Hades and Persephone tale. However, while the book offers a passionate and intriguing romance, I found myself struggling with the over-saturation of this particular myth in the dark romance genre. The story follows a woman born into power, but her strength is waning. She has always known two truths: magic is real, and the Gods show no mercy to women like her. Despite the myths and warnings that have surrounded her life, she has never truly feared them—until the night he arrives. Cloaked in darkness and exuding an aura of danger, he pulls her into a world she never expected, making her a captive in the Underworld. Though her logical mind screams terror, a deeper, more primal part of her is drawn to him. He is sin incarnate, and she can’t resist him. That said, while the writing is undeniably alluring, the predic...

Review: A Deal For a Kiss - Willow Winters

Review: A Deal For a Kiss - Willow Winters - November 2024 Willow Winters delivers a hauntingly beautiful and deeply evocative love story in A Deal for a Kiss , blending dark romance with a sense of fated inevitability.  The story is steeped in darkness and passion, unfolding through the perspective of a possessive and determined hero who has waited lifetimes to reclaim what is his. The ethereal prose captures the magnetic pull between the protagonists, drawing readers into a love story that transcends time. The central character, mysterious and relentless in his pursuit, is driven by an undying connection to the heroine, who remains unaware of their shared past. His desire to claim her and bring her to the underworld fuels the novel’s intensity, making for a gripping, page-turning experience. The way she intertwines fate, memory, and devotion adds depth to the romance, making it more than just a love story—it becomes an obsession, a need that cannot be denied. The hero's unwaver...

Review: Neon Gods - Book #1 Dark Olympus Series - Katee Robert - June 2021 For as long as Persephone can remember, the Hades statue has always been covered by a dark shroud and there have been rumors that the Hades lineage and name died out and that he is nothing but a dark myth and legend told to the generations of Gods and Goddesses and people of Dark Olympus to scare them. Persephone was one of those people who believed that but she also had this slight obsession with finding out the truth about Hades. Soon though her life is about to direct her right into the path of Hades and his underworld. VBT# Review - Monstrous - Nicole M. Rubino

Review: Monstrous - Book #1 Monstrous Series - Nicole M. Rubino - January 2024 Have you ever read a book that transports you back to another time when you read books similar and it sparks up happy moments and memories and because of that, you find yourself enjoying a book? That for me was how I felt with Nicole's book "Monstrous" - to be honest, I wasn't sure what I was in for as I read the trigger warnings - I assumed it was darker and more gruesome, but as I got reading it I found myself transported back to the same feelings I had in 2016 when I began my journey to read Jennifer Estep's Mythos Academy series. This book gave me those same vibes with a hint of possibly Wednesday - the new show based on Wednesday Adams. In Monstrous our main character Rhiannon has had some changes happening and discovered that she isn't quite human - she is half-monster. Now she has been thrust into a university designed for monster students to learn to harness their skills a...

Review: Hades and Persephone - Lee Savino and Stasia Black

Review: Hades and Persephone - Lee Savino and Stasia Black - July 2024 One of my favorite Greek myths is the story of Hades and Persephone as in a way it sort of resembles my own love story, as a Christian sheltered girl fell in love with a guy that was dark and mysterious and gothic. He was like my Hades and I was his Persephone. However, unlike this tale which was a dark romance, mine wasn't as terrible. In this book Persephone has escaped home and gotten a job in the city as a Nanny and life has been going great, that is until one night everything falls apart as she is hit on by her boss Paul, loses her job, and then a random guy tries to drug and kidnap her. After this ordeal, she meets Hades and he becomes her savior and the "perfect gentleman". Their relationship is a whirlwind one as he makes her feel like a princess and that he truly loves and adores her.  When he asks her to marry him, she accepts as she loves him with all her heart and believes he does the same....
