Review: Elephants Remember - Jennifer O' Connell

Review: Elephants Remember - Jennifer O'Connell - November 2022 Based on a true story, Elephants Remember is not only one of the most beautifully illustrated animal stories I have seen but it is also such a heart-warming, ugly crying, sweet read. It is one of the best animal books around and if you love stories like Katherine Applegate's The One and Only Ivan or the various Michael Morpurgo titles, then you will love Jennifer O'Connell's book Elephants Remember. This book starts with a guy named Lawrence who owns a haven for animals in South Africa. He has been asked to look after a herd of elephants, at first, he is reluctant as he doesn't have the equipment needed e.g. fencing and the space for them. Lawrence eventually is persuaded as he realizes if he doesn't save them, then they will be sadly hunted and killed by poachers which animal lover Lawrence won't let happen. It's not an easy task, as the elephants start to escape but each time Lawrence bri

Review: My Best Friend's Murder - Polly Phillips

Review: My Best Friend's Murder - Polly Phillips - January 2021 I was in the mood for a mystery and also a little biased with this author's name as my name is Paula Phillips and as a nickname my dad used to call me when I was little Paulie which sounds like Polly. This book though written by an Aussie author is set in the UK as it used words like commons and pub/ bistros. The book starts with Becs - one of my main female characters finding her best friend Izzy's body at the bottom of the stairs. She leaves as she knows if she sticks around, she would be considered a prime suspect as hours earlier they argued. The book then jumps back to about a month earlier and we can already see cracks slowly forming in the friendship I felt sorry for Becs as she saw Izzy as her best friend since they were teenagers. As the book goes along, I came to hate Izzy as despite being "the amazing one" she is a jealous cow and manipulative and just a downright bully to Becs. It's

Review: Girls Can - Deb Preston

Review: Girls Can - Deb Preston - February 2023 You know that saying anything you can do, I can do better and girls can do what boys can. This rings true in Girls Can by Deb Preston. I loved this book as it shows that girls can enjoy things like princesses, and unicorns but also at the same time they might prefer playing a sport, getting dirty, and playing with trucks. This fun picture book is perfect for girls of all ages from 4 -9 years old. It is so good, that it also has won an award called the Maxy Award which is given to books and awarded to those who show excellence in both indie and self-published authors. This book has a strong emphasis on also building up your daughter's / nieces or even granddaughter's confidence and self-esteem and letting her know that she can become anything that she puts her mind to. I love books these days that show girls as I didn't have anything really like this when I was younger. The closest I had was the Babysitters Club which was a g
