Review: Lumberjanes Book #5 - Various Contributors

Review: Lumberjanes - Book #5 - Various Contributors - June 2026 There's a particular kind of comfort in opening a Lumberjanes book  it's the comic equivalent of walking into your childhood bedroom and finding everything exactly where you left it, except somehow even more delightful than you remembered. Volume 5 (collecting issues #49–60) is no exception, and honestly, it might be one of my favorite helpings of camp chaos yet. April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley are back, and as always, the world refuses to let them have a normal week. Between navigating underground labyrinths, getting swept up in a board game with actual magical stakes, and accidentally waking up an ancient Greek goddess (you know, typical Tuesday stuff), this volume packs in enough adventure for three ordinary book series. And yet nothing ever feels rushed or overstuffed ,  it all unfolds with that easy, breathless energy the series has perfected, where the absurd and the heartfelt sit side by side without m...

Review: Lumberjanes: Book Three - Various Contributors

Review: Lumberjanes: Volume Three - Various Contributors - February 2026 Oh friends, gather round because I have the most wonderful thing to share with you today, and I am barely containing my excitement as I type this! When the postie knocked on my door with a review copy from the absolute legends over at Boom Studios, I may have done a little happy dance in my hallway. Boom Studios honestly publishes some of the most joyful, imaginative, and downright brilliant comics and graphic novels out there, and being trusted with one of their titles for review genuinely made my day. But here's the thing  this wasn't just any title. This was Lumberjanes. My Lumberjanes. I fell in love with April, Jo, Mal, Molly, and Ripley over ten years ago when this gorgeous series first burst onto the scene, and that love has never once wavered. They feel like old friends at this point, the kind you'd want sitting round your kitchen table with a mug of tea and a warm biscuit. Book Three collect...

Review: Lumberjanes - Mind Over Mettle ( Vol #16) - Various Authors/Illustrators

Review: Mind Over Mettle - #Volume 16 Lumberjanes - Various Authors/Illustrators - December 2020 I don't normally read graphic novels, but there is something about the Lumberjanes that I love. The friendship factor, the adventure, and the fun they get into as well as earning their badges and keeping the impression that it's a normal camp. I also loved that in Volume 16, that they have aged the characters nicely as we see the progressions of characters like Ripley, April, Jo, Mal, and  Molly, and yes - she still has her squirrel hat. This book starts with the girls out on one of their adventures as April wants to find someone fun to wrestle with so she can get her wrestling badge. This has Mal feeling uneasy as she is tired of being the "scared" one in the group and so she asks Ripley to help her become fearless. During one of their lessons though, Mal ends up falling through a portal and now the girls have to save Mal from the portal and bring her back to "this...

Review: Lumberjanes - Birthday Smarty ( Vol #15)

Image
Review: Birthday Smarty - #Volume 15 - Lumberjanes - Various Writers/Artists - August 2020 It's birthday celebrations happening at the Lumberjanes camp and one of those girls celebrating their birthdays is Jo. For years ever since they were young ones, April has been planning a birthday party after a birthday party for Jo, always try to best the previous year's birthday party. This year though Jo isn't at all excited as she knows that April will try and make it all about herself, little does she know that April has put a lot of effort into this party and decided that the correct Lumberjane way is to share the birthday spirit? However, will Jo and Mal get back in time to help celebrate the party as Jo has other plans and sabotaged the rafting trip? Of course, we also have the Selkies joining in as their captain has disappeared and needs saving which wouldn't be a proper Lumberjane novel without adventure and magical beings. I do have to admit though, I am w...

Review: Lumberjanes - Volume #14 - X Marks the Spot

Review: Lumberjanes #Volume 14 - X Marks the Spot - Various Authors - May 2020 I have to admit, like Volume #13 this wasn't a favorite but still, I did enjoy it as it went more into Greek mythology and we saw the girls banded back together and working as a full team which I had missed in Indoor Recess. In Volume #14 the girls are searching for Ripley's swimsuit when they find a map under her bed among all of her candy. The girls thinking it is a treasure map, head off on their journey. Throughout the treasure hunt, they find pieces of a statue broken which of course Ripley sticks together with her pink crafting glue and what comes to life is an evil Greek Goddess who feeds off the energy of others and magical beings. She ends up kidnapping Ripley and the magical cats, though of course as we know, no-one is a match for Ripley as she is so active and a whole different league than the average person. Out of all the characters of Lumberjanes, Ripley has always be...
