VBT# The Elegant Emu - Adventures in Harmony Series - Karen M. Bobos - June 2022 The Bobos Babes are back, remember we met them last year in a Halloween read when they decided to go trick or treating and dressed up in crazy costumes. The princesses in this book are seated down having a very royal breakfast with their parents the King and Queen when one of them burps and the others laugh etc. This sets the King hiring the Elegant Emu to teach his princesses manners as Princesses should be little ladies not burping and farting at the dinner table. I have to admit these sorts of books aren't my favourite as I get where they are coming from but think that this type of thinking is now old-fashioned and though girls should be girls and not act like boys - bodily functions etc are just parts of life and they shouldn't be made to feel ashamed for them as for boys - it seems like it...

Review: My Sweet Boy -Krystaelynne Sanders Diggs and Illustrated by Thais Liborio - April 2022 This book was so adorably cute and the illustrations were one of the best I have seen in a picture book in a long time, the colors were bright and eye-catching and just had this sense of vibrancy and happiness to it. The book was based on I assume the author's son who I would put between 4-6 years old as he could have been at Kindy or just starting school. My Sweet Boy goes into the life of the character's little boy and all the amazing and sweet ways he acts from being kind to others, sharing and caring, and also giving his mum kisses and snugs. My Sweet Boy is a fun rhyming picture book and a great way to teach children between the ages of 3-6 years old how to use their manners and how to act in different situations from being at kindy/school, outside playing with friends, the behavior when around animals to being at home. This book touches on several elements of good manners and...

Review: Popular - A Memoir - Maya Van Wagenen - April 2014 What would you do in order to become one of the popular crowd ? Would you undergo an experiment in order to see how a change in personality on the outside could land you sitting at the popular kids table ? Maya's family loved antiques and classic items and one day her father brought her a 1950's guide to being a teenage girl written by former 50's model Betty Cornell. Maya decided to for the year adapt the 50's ettiquette, fashion and the whole she-bang in order to see whether the same rules still applied to today's society and whether it made a difference or if she got a reaction from her peers. Popular was a quick read and very fascinating as each month we read as Maya tries something different and new from 50's fashion to hairstyles to posture. We read as Maya soon discovers who her friends are and that the popular kids are exactly the same as everyone else and that they hold the sa...
