Review: At the Speed of Lies - Cindy L. Otis - June 2023 Scrolling on my Libby App, I was looking for a book to read and tried a couple but they were both DNF, and At the Speed of Lies by Cindy L. Otis was a third-time lucky read. This book I went in blind and enjoyed it. The book starts with Quinn taking photos, she is in her second to last year of high school and runs an Instagram account called The Whine. During this time, she also meets Asher - a new student at the school. In the student fair, run by Cade - a bully towards Quinn is hosting a stand called Defend Kids aka D3. He mentions two children who have been kidnapped. It sounds all good, but as the book goes along and Quinn tweets about the case, she finds her numbers going up exponentially and her posts going viral. What happens though when the tweets and social media pictures end up spiralling out of control? At the Speed of Lies by Cindy L. Otis was a thought-provoking read and showed readers just how easy information ca...

Review: Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner - Kathryn Freeman

Review: Nobody Puts RomComs in the Corner - Kathryn Freeman - February 2023 I needed a bit of light reading after the thrillers and dark reads lately and I picked up off my bookshelf Kathyrn Freeman's latest "Nobody Puts Romcoms in the Corner". From the very front cover, I knew that if this book was done correctly that I would love and enjoy it and I did. This particular book is every romantic comedy fan's dream read. From the fact that the main character's names are Harry and Sally with Sally being our hopeless romantic and Harry being the cynical and skeptical one, the book title refers to the movie Dirty Dancing. The story is based around Harry coming to live with Sally after his ex refuses to move out of his house. Along the way, Sally suggests that they make some extra money filming iconic romantic comedy scenes on Tiktok and posting them on their Instagram. What starts as innocent fun though ends up spicing up especially when they do the Potter'...

Review: #Lured - Book #2 North Star Series - Jo Schneider - August 2019 I had enjoyed the first book and so continued the series. This series North Star focuses on saving students from ending up in terrible situations like they all had before. From cyber bullying to human trafficking to revenge based consequences. Kaylee Roberts is one of those young females in high school that is teased and treated terribly as she suffers from acne and not only does her mum want her to look stunning all the time, she is bullied by Alison - a mean girl at her school and someone she is competition with on the soccer team. Kaylee has always loved taking pictures and sharing them on Instagram, what happens though when Kaylee is friended by "funguy82" and the pair start sending each other photos including sexual ones. Soon , she is targeted and her photos held for ransom and are threatened to be released to the public. Kaylee has been catfished. On the other hand, Warren as a child was sold to ...

VBT# Miles and Miles Of You - Jennifer Bonds

VBT# Miles and Miles of You - Jennifer Bonds - November 2022 When I heard the name Jennifer Bonds, my mind goes to authors like Janet Evanovich and Jennifer Cruise as her books scream chick lit and romantic comedy stories. More romance though and Miles and Miles of You had both the romance factor and the comedy factor. Our main female character Lucy has been in love with her boss and doing his dirty work and going the extra mile, but he never appreciates her and treats her as invisible. Lucy has had enough and when she threatens to quit, her boss Miles just laughed. This pushes Lucy over the edge as she quits to become a travel influencer. With her boss mocking her decision, she is more determined than ever to make this work. The thing that Miles doesn't realize till it's too late is that without Lucy his life is in complete and utter chaos. Miles and Lucy's relationship is one of those cases of not realizing how good he had it before it was too late. On the first day of t...

2022: A Bookish World. As 2021, comes to an end and before I start fresh for 2022. I want to say thanks to all the amazing authors out there who keep pumping books out for us readers. Every year I discover new authors , read old favourites new stories. I also see many book blogs and tour companies finishing up as many go towards starting bookstagram accounts and vlogging their reviews. For me 2022 will celebrate in April - 1 year since I started my new job at Tauranga Hospital doing administrative work and I love it , it's a career , I never thought I would do as I did enjoy at one point in time - my job at the library but the past few months leading up to my leaving. I just couldn't do it anymore , I was getting miserable and feeling depressed and having dark thoughts. I was sent recently a job advertisement for a school library manager role and it shows how much I have grown and also sadly , how the library affected me as a year ago I would have jumped at applying for the ro...
