VBT : A Pecunious Life - How to Have a Life Abounding in True Wealth

Have you ever wondered how you could have a life filled with all the riches in the world , well today readers with Mike Dolan , I present you with his latest book "A Pecunious Life - How to Have a Life Abounding in True Wealth" along with an interview with the author himself .

Review : A Pecunious Life- Mike Dolan -2010

The book A Pecunious Life written by Author Mike Dolan has great advice for improving ones life, not only does the author write details of how to become more wealthy, but he incorporates his own experiences which are woven into lessons of life quality. Learning from the past, learning from mistakes, learning from beliefs or mis-beliefs, life-altering events, and exercises where the author asks you to sit in a quiet place and reflect on the lessons given.
The book is not really about becoming wealthy in the money sense, but wealthy in the spiritual and happiness sense. Could we be happy with less? Happiness is a state of mind-
I found this educational and easy to read and recommend it to adults in need of self-hep, spiritual guides, and for people who need a better life than they have right now.

From the Desk of Mike Dolan .......
Here is Mike in his own words:

This is a challenge for me to write. I’m not accustomed to writing about myself. I am a newly published author who believes in the best this life has. I’m a positive energy that is always willing to help those that seek out my help. I am an enabler, a catalyst that’s willing to set the bonfire of your soul aflame. I am nobody.. and yet I am everyone. I have the same feeling, the same hopes, the same desires, and the same dreams you do. Perhaps the one difference is my burning desire to help others come alive to find the dreams once held in my heart. My intent is to help as many people as I possibly can, to bring joy to as many lives as I can, and to empower as many people as I can to find the life of dreams again… My life has been comprised of experience, experiences that have lead me to this point in my life. I wish to share what it is that I have learned along the way so tthat we all will enjoy the time we have.

Today is a new day as is everyday of your life if you so choose. What do I mean by this? It’s simple really… New experiences in our lives always seem to be more exciting, more moving, more beautiful, more of everything. Each day has that energy within it, more specifically your experience of this life as that energy in it. You get to choose how you experience the days of your life. You don’t always get to choose what is within the experience, but you do get to control the way you experience it. Take everyday as a new day, as a new challenge, as a fresh start… Many may balk at this idea due to the nature of how they perceive their own lives, but I would challenge them to try it. If you work in an office where you life is dull, where all you do is sit in a cubicle and push paper. I challenge you to experience it for the first time as if it was your first day. Go in with a smile, say Hi to someone that doesn’t expect it… Experience your day as a new day…

Mike was born in the mile-high city of Denver, Colorado 43 years ago. He has lived all around this beautiful world of ours, from Europe to Alaska, to his current home in the Middle East. His education is that of the experiences life gives and school is far from being out for him. He is a lover of life, a life adventurist. He loves to travel, meet new people, and experience new cultures. He has been given a great opportunity to see life in a different light and wishes to share this with you.

Interview :
1) Tell us about your book.....................?

A Pecunious Life is a book that helps people have a wealthy life. My main goal in writing this book is to just help as many people as I can to have a better life, a more full filling life, and to follow their dreams. I share what I have learned through my experiences and travels and then help the reader make a plan for a better life.

2) What gives you the innovation to write a particular genre ?

The self-help genre is my favorite, because it allows me to tap into something more than myself and through that instigate change in those around me.

3) Do you have any other hidden talents besides being a writer ?

I enjoy painting focusing on abstract forms of Phi or the Golden Ratio represented throughout nature.

4) Has your characters or writing been inspired by friends/ family

My book is not a novel. However, the experiences that I have had with my family starting as a young boy were a major inspiration for this book.

5) Did you experience writers block? If so, what did you do to get rid of it?

I use just about everything I can to help me stay on task, but even with all my tricks I still get side track on occasion. The key is not to beat myself up about it. I set goals as mile markers on the path.., as I travel down that path I will encounter challenges along the way. These are things I won’t always be able to identify when setting my goals, so I will just have to work through them. This more often than not will delay reaching the goal. It’s all just a part of the experience as I move forward. Some of the things I use are emails and voice messages to myself, note cards taped to the bathroom mirror, anything that will just put the hint to what I want to accomplish, is enough to move me in the direction. The idea is to be creative with it and have fun.

6) What are you working on now?

I’m in the final steps of finishing another book as I write this. I would like to continue to write in a way that will help people find their dreams, find their true calling in life and become a positive energy for those around them. The book is call A Thousand Thoughts To Ponder

7) What is your favorite scene in your book?

The scenes in my book express some of the things that happened to me that weren't very pleasant but were the foundation of what my book is about. The best scenes were of my travels that gave substance to my ability to help others through my experiences.

8) Had you previously written anything?

This was my first book.

9) How long does it take you to write a book?

It took a lifetime to learn enough to use my experiences to write this book.

10) Which comes first for you – characters or plot?

My book is self - help. There are really no characters or plot. There is a plan to help people have a richer life. I formulated this plan through my experiences and travels.

11) How did you get into writing? Did you always want to become a writer?

I've been writing for ten years mostly in journals I have kept. This is my first published work though and I am excited about reaching this milestone I set for myself.

12) If you were stranded on a desert island, what are three material things you couldn't be

I am not very materialistic but I would like something to write with, something to write on, and my surfboard to bring me closer to nature and my thoughts.

13) What are you reading now?

I've always been an avid reader, but I've always preferred reading to learn something as opposed to just reading for entertainment. In this pursuit I started to read about Leonardo DaVinci, Nikola Tesla, Steven Hawking, and others. I was reading Napoleon Hill, Norman Vincent Peale, Wayne Dryer, Deepak Copra. Right now I am reading: David Hawkins Power Vs. Force

14) Which author has inspired you most and why ?

As I said before there are a number of writers that inspired my writing. I want people who read my book to learn something to help them lead a better life.

15) What advice would you give aspiring authors?

Nike’s slogan comes to mind..., “Just Do It!” Don’t worry about the rules, don’t worry about what people say, don’t worry about anything, just write from your soul. Let all the details work themselves out. If you don’t know how to do something the only way to know how is to “Just Do It.” Don’t let the fear of failure get in your way, everyone that is successful has fail.., everyone... It’s the way you look at things that will determine where you will go in life... Are there boulders that stand in your way or are they stepping stones to the life you wish to live, if you want the life of your dreams then you already know the answer...

16) To finish off, Do you have a quote or poem that has stuck with you over the years and what is the story behind it ?

On my website I have a feed of inspirational quotes and sayings. There are so many that have meaning for me that I can't zero in on just one. You are all invited to my website, http://www.mike-dolan.com/ to more about my book and to find quotes that may inspire you.

Passing Strange - Daniel Waters

Are you sick of the Vampires and Werewolves craze ? Well move over Vampires and Werewolves, make way for Zombies. These Zombies however are not the killer kind that we see on the big-screen in movies like Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead ,nope these Zombies resemble your deceased friends, family members and are attending your schools.

Review: Passing Strange - Daniel Waters -2010

Imagine turning up to school and all your friends who had died are now Zombies except you are not allowed to call them Zombies , they are the Living Impaired.
For those who haven't read Generation Dead and Kiss of Life (Book One and Two) then you may find Passing Strange more than a tad odd."Just A Warning". This is one of those series , where in order to follow the story you have to read the books in order.
Whereas the first two stories follow the main characters of Phoebe , Tommy and her friend Adam and their interesting love triangle - a bit like Stephenie Meyer has created with the Short Second Life of Bree Tanner , Passing Strange focuses on a minor character who has a story of her own to share.
Passing Strange tells the story of Karen DeSonne , she has risen from the dead and has come back as a Zombie, not that she wanted to after killing herself as a suicidal act.
After events and tragedies that occurred in the second book "Kiss of Life" a new law has been brought out that Zombies must be accompanied by an adult at all times. For Karen, she is one of the lucky ones - add a new hair colour and contacts and she passes as a regular teenage girl. After an event which causes her friends to be accused of murder , Karen must infiltrate the enemy and find out what conspiracy is setting the zombies up for a fall .
A Fun story of Mystery, Romance and Zombies. I have enjoyed all the books so far and can't wait to see where Dan takes the books next. These books would also make a good film.

Unburdened - Chris Tiegreen

Do you feel like life has got a hold of you and is pulling you deeper and deeper under it's surface? In the bible, God promised us all the freedom from having to ever worry again , what do you think life would be like if you believed in the word?

Unburdened - Chris Tiegreen -2010

Thank you to Tyndale Publishers .

How would you feel if all those worries, pains and problems that have been holding you back or that you are experiencing , went "poof" and disappeared forever ? How would your life be then, would you be able to go out and experience more and place all your worries with God ?
Author Chris Tiegreen brings together a good study guide to how to let God take care of your worries and let you live life with ease so that you may never again have to worry about those sleepless nights of tossing and turning , those horrible little anxious butterflies that flutter around in your tummy or those panic attacks that some of us including me work ourselves into a tiny state.
Unburdened is written in a way that everyone including non-christians can relate to with everyday examples to support his writings , one thing that I liked about Unburdened is that it teaches us not only to give God our worries but also how to cope with them and how to get rid of that chip growing on our shoulders.

"The only way to live an unburdened life -the one , take it or leave it, all or nothing way- is to actually let go of what we've been carrying and pick up a singular passion for God".

Not only does Chris Tiegreen's book show us the way of being unburdened and lightening on load but also in the same process how to have a stronger and build a relationship with God that filled with passion and the holy spirit blazing through you soul".

"It is one thing to say Jesus is living within us , but it is another to let Jesus live through us".

Hex Hall - Rachel Hawkins

Ever wondered what it would be like to be a witch , do you remember the ol' TV Show Sabrina the Teenage Witch with her warlock turned cat Salem - All the trouble she got into for doing her spells ? With the rise of Supernatural genres in books , it's not uncommon that most people are currently reading novels that have some kind of supernatural reference. For me I find it fun and fascinating , I love things that are outta this world.

Review : Hex Hall - Rachel Hawkins - 2010 ( Book One)

"My Mother says I must not pass too near to the glass; she is afraid that I will see A little witch that looks like me; With a red mouth to whisper low , The very thing I should not know" - Sarah Morgan Bryan Piatt.

For Sophie Mercer ,being a witch isn't all fun and games . She doesn't get to ride a broomstick or have a talking cat like Sabrina and unfortunatley for Sophie her spells tend to get her into a huge bunch of trouble from students breaking their bones to trying to get out of a test which left her teacher with memory-loss . The spells also have a habit of getting her kicked out of schools . The book starts off at her 19th and counting school on their Senior Prom Night. Sophie hears sobbing , uncontrollable sobbing and discovers Felicia - eager to help , she conjours up a date spell which like all her previous spells turns out terribly wrong. Summoned to the council -the big-wigs of the witch/warlock world .Sophie is sentenced to schooling at Hectare Hall aka Hex Hall (the school reminded me of the English TV Show ""Hex").
The Brochure reads "The purpose of Hectare Hall is to protect and instruct shapeshifter, witch and fae children who have risked exposure of their abilities, and therefore imperiled Prodigium society as a whole".
Hex Hall is like Hogwarts for the supernatural as Sophie is landed in class with fae , shapeshifters , the odd vampire, witches and warlocks. This book has clever literature references including the famous Lord Byron as a Vampire ( read Jane Bites Back by Michael Thomas Ford) teaching English and of course suited to all teens relating to your everyday school situations.
As the book progresses , we read as Sophie finds herself and the Progidium in danger as a secret society has come out of the woodwork to destroy all supernaturals especially her .

The Language of Secrets- Dianne Dixon

What if everything you had ever known was a lie ? What if you had gaps in your memory and didn't know the reason behind it?

Review: The Language of Secrets-Dianne Dixon -2010

Justin Fisher has it all , a wonderful career , a loving wife and child. Now in order to move on with his life , he is ready to meet his estranged family unfortunatley it is easier said than done. When Justin Fisher arrives to his hometown , he finds out that his parents have both passed away. Upon visiting their graves, he notices a small grave next to it - His own. How can this be, when he is standing right here? This is where the book gets very exciting as we are dragged into the world of Justin Fisher and we learn all about his empty past, why has he got so many gaps and how come is sisters don't recognise him ? Can Justin Fisher find out the who he is and why their is a grave for him or will he realise that in order to move on with his future, that the past doesn't matter or will his eager task to find out the past put strain on his new family and cause more heartache?
A lovely and compelling story that in parts is quite heart-wrenching and the main topic of the story is a subject that actually happens in everyday life.

Indiana Jones Supernaturalized

Are you a fan of the Indiana Jones Quartet , The Librarian Trilogy , Relic Hunter, National Treasure just to name a few ? Does treasure hunting and artifacts make your blood bubble with passion and excitement?

Review : Brooklyn Knight - CJ Henderson- 2010

Along the way, Bridget and Pier start bonding and Bridget as she learns more and more about her boss is going to be wishing she stayed home this summer in the small town of Wolfshead, Montana.

Move over Donny Osmond and Make way for David Cassidy

Who remembers from the mid-70's Decade , the days of Donny Osmond , The Jackson Five and the rising star of the mid 1970's courtesy of The Partridge Family - Mr. David Cassidy.
Authoress Allison Pearson remembers clearly as her latest book is released "I Think I Love You" on July 9th 2010 in New Zealand.

Review: I Think I Love You - Allison Pearson-2010

Were you a fan of The Partridge Family, Did you glue yourself to the Television whenever the hunky David Cassidy made an appearance ? Did you have your bedroom walls adorned with David Cassidy posters (For Me it was in the years of Leonardo Dicaprio and Heath Ledger). This book flashes back to the year 1974 , David Cassidy is the new teen heartthrob and for Welsh teenager Petra , it's like Donny Who ? ,I only care about David Cassidy. Her Bible growing up had nothing to do with religion but was in fact "The Essential David Cassidy Magazine" , whom had no relation in fact with David Cassidy himself, but a Music Journalist Bill.
Fast-Forward Twenty-Four Years later........ Petra , is flicking through a magazine and comes across "The Ultimate David Cassidy Quiz" - The Prize, to meet David Cassidy. For Petra, this is a dream come true, but as she claims her prize. Is this the perfect moment she has been waiting for or have her expectation preceded her ? This will appeal to anyone who's lusted after a celebrity - no matter what generation your pin-up comes from. It's a funny but poignant story that was well worth the wait. And the book ends with an interview the author did with her own teen hero, and answers that most vital of questions: is brown really Cassidy's favourite colour?

Romance and Rock N Rolling with Trish Silver

When Television and Music mix , it brings together shows like American Idol , Popstars , So You think you can..... , Eurovision and the (Insert where you live) Got Talent . With this popularity, it's no wonder that authors have used this as a plot setting for their many stories from Ben Elton's Dead Famous to Ilana Fox's Spotlight and today's author has mixed this trend with a hint of romance -which be honest girls and some guys who are to proud to admit they spend their time reading those kind of books -really enjoy and thrive on. Today's author Trish Silver brings to us her new book " When I Remember Love" with some extra features to add to her tour.

Bio of Authoress : Trish Silver

I was born and raised in Whitefish Bay, WI. I went to college at the University of Cincinnati. I moved to Los Angeles in the turbulent 1960's and met my husband Ed. We have been happily married for 41 years and have two sons, Matthew and David. We also have two grandchildren, Jack and Sarah.

Blurb : When I Remember Love-Trish Silver

Interview With Trish Silver :

Interview Questions;

1)Tell us about your book.....................?

Certainly. Aidan Price, born in Texas, was raised by his mother after his father left them when Aidan was only two years old. His musical talent was apparent at an early age and his mother encouraged its growth. Despite being teased by other kids for not liking sports, Aidan still pursued his love of music by singing in the school choir. By the time he was in high school, Aidan blossomed from an awkward child to a handsome teen with many followers, especially after his fantastic job as the lead in the school performance of Grease. Later he began performing at weddings, bar mitzvahs, and other high-end parties to supplement his income while in college. After losing his girlfriend in a tragic accident, he dropped out of college and formed a rock band. At the encouragement of his fans, Aidan auditioned for American Star and thus begins his exciting journey in the music industry. When Aidan agrees to meet his new music agent’s niece, he never dreams of the role she will come to play in his life.

Jenna Holden grew up as an only child, surrounded by love from her parents, Kate and Nathan. They were a close knit family. Jenna’s mother was her best friend. Then suddenly Jenna loses Kate to brain cancer and her world is turned upside down. Jenna and her father fell into the routine of watching American Star, the reality television show, where talented singers perform in hopes of winning a recording contract. She became mesmerized by contestant Aidan Price whose beautiful voice brought comfort during her time of grief. Jenna is persuaded to go visit her Aunt Vanessa in Los Angeles, who happens to be a music agent and has just signed on none other than Aidan Price. Jenna’s aunt, who knows of her fondness of Aidan, invites Jenna to come with her to a lunch meeting with her newest mysterious client. When Aidan walks into the restaurant Jenna’s life is forever changed a second time.
Aidan and Jenna are instantly drawn to each other and are aware of little else in their surroundings. The two spend some magical time together and shortly after fly to Las Vegas to get married. They embark on a beautiful journey of love where their relationship is put to the test as Aidan’s rise to stardom begins to climb. The two will also have to deal with not only media scrutiny, but also personal crises that threaten to tear apart their happy family forever.

2)What gives you the innovation to write a particular genre ?

I was inspired to write this book after closely following the journey of a real American Idol from his television debut to his realization of a life-changing career. This journey provided me insight into the characteristics of a phenomenal fan base, as well as an inside look at how someone can find the strength to stay grounded despite the unsettling impact of stardom.

3)Do you have any other hidden talents besides being a writer ?

I garden, play a mean game of poker, love to travel, and enjoy playing Shanghi Rummy with a 91 year old friend of mine.

4)Has your characters or writing been inspired by friends/ family?

My characters unfolded within a dream, which lead my pen in hand in creating my love story. Guiding my words and creative thoughts within the loving actions and behavior of my characters, they come alive filled with passion…undying love of misplaced worlds of now we so deeply need outside of a day dream. They were born entirely in my mind, based on no one I could recognize.

5)Did you experience writers block? If so, what did you do to get rid of it?

No. my characters had too much to say to let me get writer's block.

6)What are you working on now?

I am writing a sequel called The Price of Love. I have completed a children's book based on a true incident that my husband and I witnessed involving our Yorkie, Wizzie. We are just waiting for the illustrations.

7) What is your favourite scene in your book?

My favorite scene is in Chapter 5. Aidan and Jenna fall in love hand have their first intimate moments. This is the first sex scene that I have written. I got over the hump (no pun intended) and there was no stopping me from there.

8)Had you previously written anything?

No, this is my first book.

9)How long does it take you to write a book?
This took a long time, not only to write the book but to pull together a song writing team to write the beautiful original songs that we included in the book. If your readers would like to hear the original music, please visit my website, http://trishsilver.com/music.

10)Which comes first for you – characters or plot?

I like to generate a fairly complete story synopsis, before I concentrate on bringing the story to life in the pages of a book. Since the characters have become very real to me, I feel I know them personally; and so it’s fairly easy to conjecture what they might do or how they might react in a given situation. Therefore, my main focus is on coming up with conflicts and challenges that they might realistically face. Once I’ve established those, the story writes itself….it just takes me awhile to find just the right words to transcribe the feelings and the emotional depths of my characters.

11)How did you get into writing? Did you always want to become a writer?

Although, I attended the University of Cincinnati School of Journalism, it was so many years ago, I never thought I would be a writer spending the years in between as a wife, mother and grandmother.

12)If you were stranded on a desert island, what are three material things you couldn't be without?

I would need my computer to write, my cards for entertainment and my virtual assistant, Janis Friesler, to keep me on task. She is my childhood friend and the buck stops with her.

13)What are you reading now?

I am reading a really entertaining book, A Size 8 in A Size 0 World. I talks about being happy just the way you are.

14)Which author has inspired you most and why ?

Since my story came to me in a dream, I guess I inspired myself. I know that sound conceited or something, but honestly the dream had everything to do with the book and my new life goals.

15)What advice would you give aspiring authors?

Follow your dreams, you never know where they will lead you. Who would have thought that I would have a new career at this time of my life,

16)To finish off, Do you have a quote or poem that has stuck with you over the years and what is the story behind it ?

We grow great by dreams. All big men are dreamers. They see things in the soft haze of a spring day or in the red fire of a long winter's evening. Some of us let these great dreams die, but others nourish and protect them; nurse them through bad days till they bring them to the sunshine and light which comes always to those who sincerely hope that their dreams will come true.
I don't know the story behind it. A president said this quote way before I was born. Yet it holds true for me.

Be Security Wise with Diane Griffin :

Have you always wondered how safe you were really ? Ever wondered about Security Clearance and it's process ?
Author Diane Wise talks to us about her Book " Everything You Wanted to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid To Ask: Professional Guidance for Obtaining and Maintaining a Security Clearance " and she has provided us with her musings .

"Everything You Wanted to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid To Ask: Professional Guidance for Obtaining and Maintaining a Security Clearance "

Diane Griffin, President and owner of Security First & Associates, says her motivation for writing Everything You Wanted to Know About the Security Clearance Process, But Are Afraid To Ask: Professional Guidance for Obtaining and Maintaining a Security Clearance came from the more than two decades of people she has assisted, both in her role as a private security contractor, and as the head of personnel or security within major governmental contractors, in finding their way through the complicated security clearance chain

If you have plenty of time to click around through myriad government websites and the patience to cut through red tape and make sense of confusing bureaucratic talk, you may be able to find some of the answers to your questions about the security clearance process,” Griffin says. “Chances are, however, that you will still be left with some of your questions unanswered, because there are some questions that the government just doesn’t address. So, unless you know someone who is well acquainted with the process from a first-hand perspective, good luck.
“What I sought to do was compile all of these answers into one easy-to-read compendium of advice and guidance, giving my readers signposts along the way to assist them in navigating through the clearance process. I believe I’ve come up with a volume that will greatly help its users, and being able to assist folks in working through this process is extremely gratifying to me.” GROUNDBREAKING SECURITY CLEARANCE EBOOK A ONE-STOP KNOWLEDGEBASE FOR THOSE CONFUSED BY THE SECURITY CLEARANCE PROCESS

Today’s economy is one of the most difficult times in recent history to find work, and many people are not even making use of their college degrees as related to employment! The number of people unemployed is staggering, and the overall lasting impact on our nation as a whole is, I believe, still not completely understood. There is hope, however.

President Obama plans on hiring 270,000 people for federal jobs. Many of those positions will require a security clearance. These jobs will become available in varying fields, and encompass all types of skills sets. The war on cyber crime has been declared, but our country is facing a shortage of computer professional holding valid security clearances,

Federal jobs, as I am sure you know, provide an opportunity for a solid career path complete with its own set of benefits and rewards that are becoming less and less common as small business America is forced to spend less and less money on these things for its employees in a tough economy. As I mentioned, most of the federal jobs that will be available for your students will require a security clearance of some type. For those with the skills to obtain a high-paying or advanced position, higher and higher levels of security clearances will be needed. This is nothing new, but with the changes that have taken place since the Patriot Act was enforced, the process is quite complex. Many people are discouraged by this and end up taking jobs elsewhere as a result when they could be quite successful if they could just get past that initial phase of getting the security clearance.

For the past 20 years, I have been walking people through this process and helping them get on the right path to security and success. My company, Security First and Associates, has assisted individuals, government contractors, and entire companies in getting the security clearances they needed in order to get the job, be awarded that contract, or be able to continue working as a vendor to the federal government.

Security First & Associates. has compiled a comprehensive Security Clearance E-Book Guide with facts and FAQs including the following topics:
• Security Clearance Levels
• Security Clearance Process
• Security Clearance Denial

What Virtual Assistant Plus Offers :

Virtual Assistants Plus

I am a former English and Computer teacher with a Masters Degree in Computer Science. I decided to get involved promoting authors and their books because I learned so much from helping my childhood friend, Trish Silver, author of When I Remember Love promote her book. We are primarily author's virtual assistants, but we will help anyone who needs our services. My former business was designing web sites for small businesses.

For the past ten years, one of my former students, David Schultz helped me with technology problems that I had encountered in my business and my classroom. When he was in 8th grade he learned complicated computer languages so that I could enter a project spotlighting my students work in a national educational contest. We won first prize over entries from over 200 schools nationwide. I am proud to say that David is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and has taken over the website division of our company. He is now in the process of designing a state of the art website for Virtual Assistants + that not only will promote our services but also our clients and their books.

Clients that buy the Book Promotion Package will have free advertising on the main page of the site. All other clients will have free promotion on the pages for the services they purchase. Interview Questions

1) Tell us about your book, Diamonds in the Rough?

Carmen Davenport is living the American dream. Born with a silver spoon in her
mouth, she has anything that a twenty-one year old college student would want:
supportive parents, a set of fly friends, and an inheritance to one of the most
lucrative clothing companies in New York: Flame, Inc. The only thing missing is
love, but that doesn’t seem to faze her until she lays eyes on Jay Santiago, a
Puerto Rican drug lord who is destined to make Carmen his at any cost.
Instantly, Carmen begins to fall for him despite his reign as the head of a
multi-million dollar drug cartel.

After securing the rights to her inheritance, Carmen soon learns that Flame,
Inc. is headed towards a downward spiral. Too ambitious to allow her dream to go
down the drain, Carmen begins pulling at all lifelines to save her company.
Putting aside everything she’s ever believed in, Carmen soon finds herself
entangled in a web of lies, betrayal, and crime. However, Carmen knows that in
order to achieve her goal, she must remain focused no matter how dangerous the
road to success may get.

Diamonds In the Roughis the first of ten books, which comprise “The Diamond

2) How was the title inspired for your book?

The novel focuses on a female character, Carmen, who is the ultimate good girl gone bad. A diamond in the rough is a phrase that is commonly used to describe something good that may be in a bad situation. Before I had even completed the novel, I knew that the title would fit the book perfectly.

3)What gives you the innovation to write a particular genre?

Urban fiction/ street lit is my favorite genre to read. As an avid reader of the
genre, I knew what I wanted to see in the storyline and what kind of characters
appealed to me. When I decided to become an author, I was compelled to write the
story that I wanted to read, but that had never been written.

4)Has your characters or writing been inspired by friends/ family?

Some of the characters and plots may be based off of conversations I’ve had with
people, but not necessarily based off of individuals in my life.

5) Did you experience writers block? If so, what did you do to get
rid of it?

When I have writer’s block, I simply do not write. I take a break and
when I feel inspired to write again, I do. I try not to put myself on a timeline
to finish a book. If it takes months for my inspiration to return then so be it.
I always want to feel like writing is something I want to do and not necessarily
something I have to do.

6)What are you working on now?

As of right now, I am rewriting and editing Black Diamonds, the fourth book in the series, The Diamond Collection.

7)What is your favorite scene in your book?

My favorite scene in the book is when Carmen meets Jay Santiago for the first time at a local diner. It is the start of a very powerful and influential courtship.

8)Had you previously written anything?

Yes, I began writing when I was in high school. I wrote a large number of books, including a five-book series, which was entitled Urban Drama.

9)How long does it take you to write a book?

It typically takes four to five months, but I have been able to finish some books in a shorter time period. It all depends on if I’m suffering through writer’s block.

10)Which comes first for you – characters or plot?

To be honest, both come at the same time almost like a vision. However, once I have a general idea of what I want a character to be like, I try to form the plot around those characteristics.

11)How did you get into writing? Did you always want to become a

I started writing in high school when I was introduced to the art of fan
fiction. It was through that experience that I realized that I wanted to be a

12)If you were stranded on a desert island, what are three material things
you couldn't be without?
This is a hard question, but the three items I would need is a notebook, an ink pen, and a cell phone. Of course, I would need thecell phone to try and call for help, but while I’m waiting, I do need to write!

13)What are you reading now?
As of right now, I am not reading a book at the moment because I have finished all of the books I have recently bought. However, the next book that I plan on reading is Onyx and Eggshell by Wyatt Bryson.

14)Which author has inspired you most and why?

This was the hardest question to answer, but I’ve decided to be honest. I have two favorite authors, but I don’t feel as if I’m inspired to write because of them. I just simply enjoy reading their work. I am most inspired by the people around me that I see on a day to day basis.

15)What advice would you give aspiring authors?

Although it may be redundant, I always like to tell people to never give up on their dreams and to put more than 100% in everything that they do. No one is going to put more effort into your work then you are.

16)To finish off, Do you have a quote or poem that has stuck with you
over the years and what is the story behind it?
Over the years, the poem, Invictus by William Ernest Henley has stuck with me. The story behind the poem is that we are in charge of our own destiny. The only person who can stop what you are trying to do is you.

The Accused -Mark Gimenez-2010

For A.Scott Feeney , his life the past twenty-two months and eight days have been the worst. Trying to reclaim his life after his wife walked out on him and his daughters and moved in with famous golfer Trey Rawlins . In this novel, he seems the equivalent of Tiger Woods- affairs and his golfing. One morning, Rebecca wakes up drenched in blood, next to his Trey Rawlins stabbed to death and Rebecca having no other suspects ,is their number one murderer. One Phone call to A.Scott , their first contact since they parted ways "Help Me Please". As the mother of his daughter and the fact they were married for Eleven years, A.Scott rushes to her side as her lawyer. What follows, is a court-case filled with ups and downs as Rebecca and A.Scott fight to clear her of the Murder charges. However, this book presents us with a huge twist near the end that I didn't even except making the story one step better than at first.

Dracula, My Love: The Secret Journals of Mina Harker - Syrie James

James (The Lost Memoirs of Jane Austen) tepidly reboots the Dracula story, reimagining the classic from the point of view of Mina Harker, a minor victim. Here, Mina is torn between two men--dependable Jonathan Harker and darkly enigmatic Nicolae Dracula. While the men of the story enact the plot from the original, Mina secretly meets her lover, Dracula, and conspires to have the best of both worlds--keep Jonathan as a husband for the term of her mortal life and keep Dracula as a lover for eternity. The mood and material may put readers in mind of Coppola's Dracula movie, though James does the narrative a disservice by waiting until too late to force Mina to make a choice--the buildup isn't exactly riveting, and the hurried decision comes across as contrived. A few unexpected twists along the way offer pleasant surprises (Van Helsing, for instance, recast as a comically inept buffoon), but otherwise, this will have a hard time standing out on the increasingly packed vampire romance shelf.

Early to Death, Early to Rise - Kim Harrison

Seventeen, dead, and in charge of heaven's dark angels—all itching to kill someone.
Madison Avery's dreams of ever fitting in at her new school died when she did. Especially since she was able to maintain the illusion of a body, deal with a pesky guardian angel, and oh yeah, bring the reaper who killed her to his untimely end. Not exactly in-crowd material. It's amazing that her crush, Josh, doesn't think she's totally nuts.
Now Madison has learned that she's the dark timekeeper, in charge of angels who follow the murky guidelines of fate. Never one to abide by the rules, she decides it's time for a major change to the system. With the help of some unlikely allies, Madison forms a rogue group of reapers who definitely don't adhere to the rules of the heavens.
But as she grapples with the terrifying new skills that come with being a timekeeper, Madison realizes she may not be prepared for what lies ahead—unless she gets some seriously divine intervention.

The Supernatural Creature Literary discusses Vampires.

Vampires, wherever you turn they are everywhere. On your Television with True Blood- Sookie Stackhouse, The Vampire Diaries with their love triangle- Stefan, Elena and Damon. What about on the big screen? Twilight Quartet, Blade, Supernatural, the Covenant. How about books? Twilight Saga, Dru Anderson Series, The Den of Shadows Quartet, Charlaine Harris's Sookie Stackhouse, Vampire High and Beach, Vamps, Evernight -The list goes on and on and on my friends.
We are living in a world of literature that is thriving in the Vampire genre, that supernatural theme that has the whole world a-buzzing.
Think back, through all your favourite authors and have a look at how many of them has moved their writing to fit in with Vampires.
Melissa De La Cruz was formerly most known for her books The Au Pairs and now one of her most popular series are Blue Bloods -once again a Vampire Series which is Gossip Girl meets Upper East Side Vampires.
LJ Smith, she has written many supernatural series, but her Vampire Diaries books were written in 1991 and 1992 -now 18-20 years later with the craze they have been reprinted, and made into a huge best-selling TV Show the Vampire Diaries. I'm sure LJ Smith didn't think that 18-20 years ago when she first sat down and wrote a Vampire novel that it would eventually lead to this.
What about the age-old story of mortal girl falling in love with a Vampire who isn't really evil. We have the famous Twilight stories, The Vampire Kisses series by Ellen Schreiber, Vampire Beach -though in this one the gender roles are reversed by Alex Duval. Then we have the Vampire stories based in boarding schools - Vampire Academy Series by Richelle Mead, Vampire High by Douglas Rees, Evernight Series by Claudia Gray and The House of Night Series by PC and Kristin Cast. These are like Book Candy for those who thrived on reading when they were younger Enid Blyton's schoolgirl boarding school tales.

Then we have the tales of oh, I am a Vampire but I don't want to be.... The House of S, It Sucks to Be Me: The Diary of Mina Hamilton by Kimberley Paulsen and Jessica's Guide to Dating on the Dark Side and Boys who bite by Marianne Mancusi.
Then the level of Vampires and their tales jump from the transition of children and YA novels to adult-fiction, these are the Vampire tales that should be R18 in places. In reading Adult Vampire Fiction, I think it should be classified also under erotic fiction. These include your basic level of Vampire novels which could fall both ways of YA/Adult - Chicagoland Vampires by Chloe Neill, True Blood- Sookie Stackhouse Series by Charlaine Harris, Morganville Vampires by Rachel Caine and Sunshine by Robin McKinley.
Then wham-bam it hits the point of erotica from Lara Adrian's Vampire Series Ashes to Midnight , Angel's Blood by Nalini Singh , The Vampire Shrink by Lynda Hilburn , The Vampire Maker , Chosen By Desire, Carpe Noctem and House of Pleasures by Katie Salidas - even the titles scream sex and vampires.
However it's not only Vampire writing authors that are jumping the bandwagon , we have Mystery writer PD Martin whose latest novel Kiss of Death featured a murder conducted by Vampires and Meg Cabot most famous for her teen series Princess Diaries and adult series Queen of Babble has released a Vampire novel called Insatiable.
When will it stop or are we destined to see more Vampire novels fall our way , though come to think about it , I am seeing more novels featuring other Supernatural creatures like Zombies, Fairies, Werewolves, Ghouls and Fallen Angels . More to come on the following in the next adventures of The Supernatural Creature Literary Musings written by The Phantom Paragrapher....... .

Am I too Succumb(us) to the Supernatural ?

With the rise of supernatural beings in fiction, it is no wonder our readingpalettes have been obscured with V ampires, werewolves, fallen angels and demons and, if you are like me, then when you read one book or a particular author, you yearn for more; it’s like a calling for you – “I must read more”. To me, when I hear the word series, two words come to mind “formula” and “fiction”.

For all those who don’t speak librarian lingo, “formula fiction” is when a book follows the same format in plot, and it’s what we seek as reliable, as we all know what we are in for.

Being asked to write about a favourite series of books, one of my favourites – and one that I am waiting patiently for book five to arrive – is the “Georgina Kincaid Series”, written by Richelle Mead. Richelle is more popularly known as the authoress of the “Vampire Academy Series” aimed at teens.

The Georgina Kincaid series pushes the supernatural to the next level. It moves the reader into the world of the semi-erotic, paranormal romance.

The series is based around the main character Georgina Kincaid, who is now living her life as a Succubus which, for those who aren’t sure, is a female sex-demon; and she comes complete with a mixed bunch of friends – the super-naturals – and some humans!

As in most of Richelle Mead’s stories, the main character is a strong female with an attitude to boot, and whom always has a knack for finding herself in:

B) a sticky situation that results in a problem TROUBLE,

And, for Succubus Georgina Kincaid – as you readers are about to get a sneaky peek into – TROUBLE is a common recurrence and that, unfortunately, Georgina never learns to avoid.

Blue? ...Really?
Book One: Succubus Blues – Richelle Mead – 2007.

To start off this review, I thought I’d clarify what a succubus is: A succubus is an alluring, shape-shifting demon who seduces and pleasures mortal men. And, for fun, as the book says, the definition of Georgina Kincaid is “a pathetic succubus with great shoes and no social life”.

However, in Succubus Blues, Georgina’s social life is going to get more hectic than she realises. Georgina finds having a social life pretty hard going when you’re a succubus; but it is the way she likes it.

Georgina has her eyes firmly set on her friends: Hugh – An Imp; Jerome – a demon that has a thing for John Cusack (though no matter how much you ask him, he will deny it); Peter and Cody – the vampires; and Carter – an annoying angel.

If this wasn’t difficult, she has all her mortal friends at the bookshop she works at. In this book, Georgina’s favourite author is coming to the bookshop. As usual, Georgina and Seth hit it off, which would have been great if Georgina didn’t have an admirer – Roman, who happens to be a Nephilim and a killer.

As we read, Georgina hits the stacks and becomes a succubus, Nancy Drew. It wouldn’t be a book about Nephilim’s, without appreciating the verse in the Bible’s “Genesis Chapter 6″, which talks about Angels and Fallen Angels.

Book Two: Succubus on Top, AKA Succubus Nights (Depending which copy you pick up) – Georgina Kincaid Series – Richelle Mead – 2008

Love Sucks and Hurts, especially for Georgina, a succubus who has just got herself a new boyfriend in author Seth Mortensen. Georgina has to be so careful not to kiss him or get sexually involved, otherwise she will drain his life-force. Admittedly, the shape shifting and immortality perks are terrific, and yes, Georgina did choose to join the ranks of hell centuries ago. But it seems completely unfair that a she-demon whose purpose is seduction can’t get hot and heavy with the one mortal who knows and accepts her for who she is.

It’s not just her personal life that’s in chaos.

Doug, Georgina’s co-worker at a local bookstore, has been exhibiting bizarre behaviour, and Georgina suspects that something far more demonic than double espressos is at work.

She could use help finding out, but Bastien, an irresistibly charming incubus, and her best immortal friend, is preoccupied in the suburbs with corrupting an ultra-conservative talk radio star – and giving Georgina some highly distracting come-hither vibes.

If this wasn’t trouble enough with the behaviour Doug is experiencing, others will soon start to have terrible consequences if Georgina, once again, can’t save the day. For Georgina, who has just received a gold star certificate, this is a job she’s getting used to.

Book 3 Succubus Dreams – Richelle Mead – 2008
Dream on...
For some girls, especially Georgina, they just can’t catch their breath, and today is one of those days; or should I say one of those books.

In Book three we are introduced to the not very nice Imp Niphon – he was the one that, way back, centuries and centuries ago, Georginia sold her soul to.

Imp has arrived in Seattle with a new succubus in tow, and a mission – or should I say a job – that Georgina, if she knows what is good for her, can’t turn down! Georgina is to mentor and help break-in a new succubus, Tawny Johnson. Tawny, in Georgina’s eyes, (and I agree) is a mega-slut, and Skank, with a capital S.

However, as always Georgina finds herself stuck in the middle of trouble, she has a Nyx after her – draining away her energy while she dreams weird dreams of her future, or a past that could have been.

Georgina’s home, due to Carter, the angel, has been invaded by a group of semi-ungrateful angels and, of course, Tawny and Niphon.

If this wasn’t bad enough, Georgina has gotten her friend Doug’s sister a job, and she and Seth have been getting more than your average cosy.

Can Georgina, with the help of friends, get out of this mess as usual, and find her Christmas/New Year spirit. And does this book signify the end of the Seth/Georgina odd no-sex relationship?

Hot stuff...
Book 4: Succubus Heat – Richelle Mead – 2009

Georgina has been in a funk – stuck in a never-ending rut, and is really starting on a downer and is annoying all her immortal friends.

Made to go and see a therapist by her “John-Cusack-lookalike” boss Jerome – after separating from Writer boyfriend Seth – Georgina does the one thing Jerome tells her not to do. The one thing a succubus does best… You guessed it! Sleep with the poor guy.

Now Georgina has Jerome in an uproar, so Jerome has come up with a little plan to get Georgina out of his hair. Send her to Vancouver, Canada on a mission. She has to stop the so-called amateur Satanist group, “The Army of Darkness”, from making fools of themselves. For anyone else this would be an easy task but, as we all know, trouble follows Georgina everywhere and she is about to find herself in the middle of a big Demon War.

When Jerome goes missing and the immortals lose their abilities, it is up to Georgina to put her human mind to work and, with the help of some friends, find out where Jerome is. Georgina restores peace and their abilities before all the immortals are stuck in a never-ending time warp.

Keep your eyes open as old characters re-appear and new ones appear, and watch out for book Five to be released – Succubus Shadows.

So next time you are browsing your shelves for a good series to pick up and read, and the supernatural paranormal romance is a favourite genre of yours, head over to the M’s and check out the books by Richelle Mead.
