Review: Black Widows - Cate Quinn - February 2021 As someone who prides themselves on their reading ability, one of the only talents I have had. This month has been a real internal struggle for me as I have found my reading affected by my external situations. This month has been a crazy one for me and I am struggling to read and finish my books. What should have taken me only an hour or two to read is taking multiple days. This is no reflection of the book though. This book was loosely based on the 2008 raid of The Yearning of Zion Way, a cult that was operated by Warren Jeffs as one of the wives - Rachel was part of a cult talked about that was raided when she was a teenager. In Black Widows, we have a dead husband and the murder suspects are one of his three wives - Rachel, Tina, or Emily. Blake has been found dead in the Utah desert with his ring finger cut off. The book then goes through the police investigation as they try to get to the bottom of what happened and then when the s...

Review: The Wives - Tarryn Fisher - December 2019 As usual when I want an edgy mind twisting read, I always find Tarryn Fisher's books right up there as you start reading them and going along your happy merry way thinking cool, I've got this plot down and wham bam she throws in a twist from left field and you are blown away with OMG how is this happening ? What is happening? That's how I felt when I read her book, The Wives. This book is told from the perspective of a female we know as "Monday" as she shares her husband with two other wives. Neither of the wives knows one another, just bits and pieces until one day Monday gets curious and starts to seek out Wife #3 and eventually befriends her under a pseudonym. Once she starts to learn about Wife #3, this leads...

Review: Wife Number Seven - Book #1 The Compound - Melissa Brown - July 2014 The other day I was in the mood for a gripping book, one that would have some grittiness to it. I have always loved reading about cults, polygamy type novels so I clicked through my kindle list and came upon Wife Number Seven. I opened it up and from the first page I was hooked and readers, I loved this book.  Wife Number Seven is told from Brinna's point of view - she is the seventh wife to her husband and the type of girl who is stubborn and not afraid to bend the rules a bit. She doesn't want to be the type of girl who only sleeps with her husband one day a week, the type who is forced to become pregnant and she wants a relationship with someone she really loves. While out on errands, Brinley runs into Porter Hammond - an ex-member of the community.  Interest sparks and the two become intimate , but can Brinley get up the courage to leave her husband and the life s...
