Review: The River Runs Black - Book #2 North Country Novel - Tessa Wegert - October 2026 The River Runs Black drops us into the deceptively peaceful town of Alexandria Bay, nestled in New York's Thousand Islands region,  the kind of small town where everyone knows everyone, and nothing bad is supposed to happen. But when a teenager dies of a drug overdose around the same time as a record-breaking cocaine bust along the Canadian border, Investigator Tim Wellington and his team think they've caught a lucky break. Case closed, right? Wrong. The lab results throw everything sideways ,  the cocaine that killed that teenager doesn't match the cocaine from the bust. Which means there's a second, far more dangerous supply still moving through town, run by people willing to protect it at any cost. Suddenly Investigator Tim Wellington isn't just solving a crime  he's racing against a ticking clock, knowing the next casualty could be another local kid caught in the crossf...

Review: The Truth about the Devlins - Lisa Scottoline

Review: The Truth about the Devlins - Lisa Scottoline - March 2024 One of my favorite authors and an auto-read is Lisa Scottoline ever over 15 years when I fell in love with one of her earlier titles. I was hooked as I enjoyed her legal thrillers, before reading her books - the only other Legal thrillers I had read was John Grisham, and here was a female author writing just as great or in my opinion even better - sorry John :P. So when I heard she had written a new one, I was excited to read it. This book introduces us to a family called The Devlins who are all lawyers except for TJ who is an investigator. TJ was the one in the family to go off the rails and since he has a criminal record now, this is the only role he can take. He loves it though as he feels he is doing his part to help get justice for those who can't by themselves. When his older brother John gets in a jam, he asks TJ for help and TJ would go to the end of the earth to help him which he does god, I hated John'...

Review: Black Widows - Cate Quinn

Review: Black Widows - Cate Quinn - February 2021 As someone who prides themselves on their reading ability, one of the only talents I have had. This month has been a real internal struggle for me as I have found my reading affected by my external situations. This month has been a crazy one for me and I am struggling to read and finish my books. What should have taken me only an hour or two to read is taking multiple days. This is no reflection of the book though. This book was loosely based on the 2008 raid of The Yearning of Zion Way, a cult that was operated by Warren Jeffs as one of the wives - Rachel was part of a cult talked about that was raided when she was a teenager. In Black Widows, we have a dead husband and the murder suspects are one of his three wives - Rachel, Tina, or Emily. Blake has been found dead in the Utah desert with his ring finger cut off. The book then goes through the police investigation as they try to get to the bottom of what happened and then when the s...

Review: The Night it Ended - Katie Garner

Review: The Night It Ended - Katie Garner - June 2023 Even though it's been a couple of weeks since I read this book, it's still a weird read which makes the review harder to type. The book started as a thriller where we meet the good doctor Madeline Pine. She is a well-known psychiatrist. We get the impression that she is having some family issues and her husband and daughter have gone away for Christmas. Again, we have a feeling it is about drugs - but we don't know. Madeline gets a phone call from a Private Investigator Matt. A young girl has been found dead on the campus of a boarding school. This isn't an ordinary boarding school and we learn some of the girls have challenges. As it's Christmas break, a few are still on campus and Madeline has been tasked to interview them to find out what happened to Charley and how she ended up dead in the snow wearing hardly any clothes and no shoes. Was she murdered or was it an accident? We know someone at the school is h...

Review: Have You Seen Me ? - Alexandrea Weis - August 2021 After enjoying Death by the River which Alexandrea co-wrote, when I was asked about this book - I said YES. This book grabbed me for several reasons from the fact it is a YA thriller set in a boarding school environment and also the book has missing persons related to it. Set in an elite boarding school where the wealthy attend amongst the odd scholarship student, over the years students have vanished and are never to be seen again. When teacher Aubrey LaRoux was at Waverley Prep, a girl who bullied her Marjorie disappeared and was never seen again. This was ten years ago. Now ten years later Aubrey has come to teach History and to her surprise, another girl has gone missing - Lindsey who turns out to be Marjorie's sister. Lindsey and her friends were investigating Marjorie's disappearance and the previous three that went missing in the '90s and discovered the identity of the killer. Now the killer is cleaning ho...

Review: The Crushing Depths - Book #2 Coastal Guardians Series - Dani Pettrey - June 2020 At the end of Book #1, we saw the agent Rissa faced with the man of her dreams and her protector growing up Mason. He is now joining her team as a fellow Coast Guard agent. The Crushing Depths follows two storylines. The first is a Coast Guard investigation of several deaths that have happened on an oil rig called Dauntless and the second is a stalker case of one of the Coast Guard Medics. Mason and Rissi are paired together and sent to the Dauntless but even before they can arrive on ship to investigate, their helicopter malfunctions, and they end up crashing into the ocean. Some say it is all part of the curse known as "Henry's curse" that haunts the Dauntless ship, but Rissa and Mason who have logic and sense on their side are sure that this is a sign of foul play and eager to get to the bottom and find the person or persons responsible especially as the death toll seems to clim...
