Review: The Summer Girl - Elle Kennedy

Image
Review: The Summer Girl - Book #3 Avalon Bay Series - Elle Kennedy - July 2023 In an effort to clear my bookshelf of my physical copies as I counted at the start of the year and I had 412 books sitting there unread. It has been interesting though as to be completely honest, most of the physical books I have tried to read, they have been just so damn boring and blah and end up going straight into my "to donate" pile.  However, I knew that I would enjoy Elle Kennedy's book as she is an author whose every title I have loved and she is just easy to read. The other great thing was that even though was Book #3 of the Avalon Bay series, it could easily be read as a standalone and you don't need to have read the other two in order to get the gist of the story as I haven't yet and I still managed to enjoy and understand this book just fine. Cassie Soul is back in Avalon Bay for the Summer and staying with her grandmother who has just sold her business, the hotel that has ...

Review: Tide's Out - Tai Timu - Frances Plumpton

Review: Tide's Out - Tai Timu - Frances Plumpton - November 2022 Growing up in New Zealand, we live in a bilingual society where we are taught often both Māori and English. Tide's Out was a cute read by Frances Plumpton and brought back memories of visiting the beach and estuaries and looking at the rock pools while the tide is out and exploring the uncovered land. Tide's Out is a fun counting book of different things that you can find on your adventures e.g., one sprig of salty seaweed and ten twisty turret shells. Each page also contains not only the English sentence but also the translation in te reo Māori. That way you can practice your te reo and read the story wherever you are whether you are in an English childcare setting or a Kohanga Reo or Kura Kaupapa. I also really liked the illustrations and the spacing of the words as the book is simple and not over the top crowded and would make the perfect read for children from 3 -9 years old as like most books with Te ...
