Review: Somebody's Home - Kaira Rouda - January 2022 I have read a couple of this author's previous books and also lately have been on a bit of a thriller kick so was excited to read Somebody's Home by Kaira Rouda. Somebody's Home starts with Sandi and her husband Doug moving away and selling their house in Oceanside to Julie and her daughter Jess. We learn that Doug's son and Sandi's stepson Tom have been living in the carriage house and have been given two days to move out. I have to admit, I wasn't keen on the fact that he was given only a short timeframe and, in a way, I understood why he acted out in the book. Julie and her daughter Jess are looking for a fresh start and have brought the new house to Cherry Lane. Both Sandi and Julie's husbands are control freaks and it's their way all the highway. Julie has the guts to leave but Sandi hasn't quite hit the spot. Though by the end of this book both will finally be set free in an unexpected ...

Review: The Only Child - Miranda Rijks - October 2021 This book captured my attention with the cover and I was in the mood for a mystery read. However, this book got on my nerves and frustrated the heck out of me. The book starts with meeting Chantal who is a lawyer and her husband Stuart who has just been promoted to an awesome news reporter slot. Life has been great for them as they are finally at the top of their careers, however, their son Alex has different ideas as he has currently turned into a pro-environmentalist and his current target is the LALO clothing company which the husband is Chantal's client and with his dad now in the spotlight, the family is under pressure and Chantal is starting to crack. If that wasn't bad enough, she is being blackmailed as seventeen years ago she chose that if anyone finds out the truth, it could cause dangerous consequences and a ripple of events. As I was saying at the start, this book frustrated me as I hated the son Alex as he wa...

Review: Murder in First Position - Book #1 On Pointe Mystery - Lori Robbins - November 2020 As we have been in lockdown the past five days, I have been recently watching a lot of the Hallmark Channel Mysteries as well as reading books of course. Murder in First Position reminded me of a mix of the Hallmark Cozy mysteries I had been watching as well as a bit of the Netflix show Tiny Pretty Things. As we know from reading and watching shows about Ballet, is it can be a cutthroat business and fleeting as there are always younger dancers coming through and as soon as your body starts betraying you or someone better comes along, you can find yourself replaced in a heartbeat. For Leah, she has returned to the scene after a few months away as she injured her knee. Now she has returned to take her place as a lead dancer but has found she has been replaced by a younger model named Arianna. Arianna though Leah is about to discover is one of those "I'm all that" dancers and a righ...
