Carina Adam's Excerpt Reveal for Blurry

Cecelia Merrill was used to being on her own. Lost and lonely, Lia couldn’t wait to graduate and watch her judgmental little town fade behind her. All she had to do was survive three more years of high school, and she was free. She wouldn’t let anything hold her back.

Craig Knightly had almost achieved what no one in his family had before – all he had to do was complete his student-teaching assignment, and in less than a year, he would have a college degree. He was ready to put down roots and start his life. Nothing was going to stand in the way of his dreams.
Sometimes all it takes is a moment for everything to change.

A student and her teacher. A coach and his athlete. An unexpected friendship. Forbidden feelings between an unlikely pair.

Neither is playing a game they can win.

“Ground rules. You feel up to making them now?” She nodded. I rubbed my palms on my sweats. “You start.”
“One: Whatever we talk about, whatever I tell you, whatever you tell me, stays between us. I don’t share with my friends. You don’t share with yours.”
The smirk I loved made an appearance. “That’s your ground rule?” The admonishment in her voice was almost laughable. “Whatever.” She rolled her eyes. “Fine. I think you’re hot. Until you talk. Then you just bug me.” I laughed, but she continued, “Three: Our significant others come first. We don’t blow them off to spend time with each other.”
“You have a boyfriend I don’t know about?” The words came out before I could stop them, and I could tell by the irritated look on her face that I hadn’t hidden the jealous tone. “Have someone in mind?” I asked, my voice a little more even.
“Not yet,” she snapped. “But, when I do, I won’t be blowing off weekend plans with him to stay home and take care of you. You need to put Whitney first. I’ll understand. When it’s my turn, you’ll understand.”
“Speaking of, we don’t talk about them. Whitney and your mystery guy.”
“Ever? How is that a good rule?” she demanded, scowling. “No. Four: We can talk about whoever we’re dating, but we can’t complain.”
“You can’t change my rule.”
“I didn’t change it. I simply used my turn to overrule yours.”
“You made two rules. If you make two, I get two.”
“You are such a pain.” She sighed dramatically. “Go ahead, make two.”
“Sex,” she interrupted. “We never talk about sex. I can’t think of anything else.”
“Sex,” I agreed. “Five: We never talk about sex. I mean it.”
She lifted a shoulder in a half-shrug. “That’s all you, buddy. I’m not the one who has a girlfriend.”
“When you do, we don’t talk about it.”
“Not a problem. Girls are pretty and all, but they’re not my thing,” Lia sassed, completely undaunted as if this was the rule she wasn’t taking seriously. “That’s one. What’s your next rule?”
Needing to make sure she understood this, above all else, was the one we needed to follow, I clasped my hands and leaned forward. I didn’t need to say anything, just gave her a pointed look. She knew me well enough to understand I was getting agitated.
“Isn’t this against your rules? We’re talking about it right now.”
“Lia,” I growled in warning. I knew her just as well as she knew me. “Not talking about it means you don’t ask questions. You don’t ask my opinion. You don’t tell me one tiny detail simply because you insist it’s something I have to know.”
“Good God! This entire conversation is embarrassing. I’m not going to have sex, but if I do, I swear to all that is holy that I will not mention it to you!” The blush crept up her cheeks as she threw her hands in the air annoyed. She was too fucking cute.

~ Sometimes, one degree is all that separates you from the one you were meant to be with ~
Wes Bergman was sex on a stick.
We’d been circling one another our entire lives, mingling at the same clubs... attending the same events…sharing mutual acquaintances…yet we’d never actually met.
Until . . . we both boarded a Windjammer Cruise in the Caribbean. And it was like meeting my long, lost best friend for the first time. I hadn’t ever connected with a guy that way before. But Wes had a girlfriend. So, when the week was over, he walked off the ship, unknowingly taking a piece of my heart with him.
Now, over a decade later, newly divorced, I’m the proverbial fish out of water. Dating has totally changed. Apps. Swipe left. Swipe right. Catfishing. Men my age want two things: twenty-five-year-olds—like my ex’s new child bride of a wife—or just a quick hook-up.
After a string of bad dates, I finally did something I never thought I’d do. I had a hot one-night stand with a really handsome guy I met online who didn’t even know my real name.
Turned out Mr. Fling is a big shot for my company’s newest client. And just my luck, that client’s CEO is none other than . . . Wes Bergman. Now I’m separated by one degree again from the man who stole my heart. And Mr. Fling could destroy my chance of what I want most –
A Do-Over with Wes.

Review: Fool Me Once - Harlan Coben

Fool Me Once

Review: Fool Me Once - Harlan Coben - March 2016
One of my favorite mystery and suspense authors has always been Harlan Coben. In the same tradition of James Patterson and Lee Child, Harlan Coben writes his books fast-paced and often shorter chapters. He is one of my go-to authors, and I make sure that I read everything he has released, or at least give it a try. Like many of my books, I have had this one sitting on my reading shelf for a while and with a day off work today - Thank Goodness for Public Holidays, I decided to read it this morning with my cup of Earl Grey tea. Fool Me Once packed a punch and unraveled a bigger conspiracy at hand than we would have guessed originally. The main character Maya's husband Joe has been killed in a robbery gone bad and four months earlier her sister Claire was murdered in a home invasion. It seems death likes to follow Maya. With Maya being away and busy, she hires a nanny -one who knew her husband and with the help of her best friend Eileen installs a Nanny Cam. One night while checking out the footage, she gets the shock of her life as her husband who is supposedly dead appears well and alive on screen. One thing leads to another, and it is discovered that the murders of her husband and sister might be connected. With the help of an associate and friends, Maya will enter down a rabbit hole filled with clues, but if she isn't careful, she may be unearthing a decade or more of dark secrets that should stay hidden. As Maya continues to wade through the secrets, the lies and follow the trail - will she find herself next on the Kill List or will she be able to pull down everyone involved in the decade-long conspiracy of blackmail, bribery, and murder?
Fool Me Once is a suspense novel that shows the lengths that some families will go to A) protect their family name and hide scandals and B) keep the family wealth.
If you love Suspense novels and thrillers, then check out Harlan Coben's Fool Me Once as you will not be disappointed with all the action packed into this one book.

Review: Forgiveness and Permission - Book #4 The Academy - CL Stone

Forgiveness and Permission (The Ghost Bird, #4)

Review: Forgiveness and Permission - The Academy - Book #4 The Ghost Bird Series - C.L Stone - October 2013

Before writing this review, I do have to admit that I have enjoyed this series to date and am enjoying it and want to see what happens but for some reason Forgiveness and Permission drove me freaking cray-cray, and I wanted to scream at this book and to be honest, I think there was a bit of shaking the Ipad as well . Parts of this one just frustrated the hell out of me. So to catch up, Sang's mother is now in the hospital, and her father has run off. We still don't know too much about Sang's birth mother. Sang and her older sister Marie are fending for themselves and trying to keep up appearances. The Academy boys have been stepping up to the plate and helping and spending more time with Sang. We also saw in this book a bit more introduction of Derrick, Micah, and Tom - the neighbors.  As the year is getting by and of course hormones are raging, the boys are all falling in love, and some more than others are developing strong feelings for Sang. Of course, she can't just date one of them - it's all or nothing as North and Blackbourne are about to learn when they go to visit someone whose Academy team made it work with a Bird, however, in their case, it was four guys and one girl not nine guys and one girl. I felt in this book that Sang was just playing with the boy's emotions and not caring about them. It's like be honest, how many times do they need to save you for you to trust them and HELLO - tell them everything as they will find out eventually. Can Sang work with the boys and love them all equally to make things work or will this be the turning point in Sang's life where she seriously needs to make a decision and an ultimatum and stop messing everyone around her lives up, just because hers sucks doesn't mean everyone else does?  I think it might have been the whole one-sided relationship of this book that frustrated me or the fact of playing games with people's emotions and hearts but it would have to be my worst Academy read in the series so far. I honestly have not felt so worked up about a book in ages, but this one I think worked me up more as I do love the boys and care about them but desperately want Sang to get over her freaking naivety ARGH.  After that little rant, I am however looking forward to seeing how it develops and YAY - the boys Luke and North finally have their diner open.
