Review: God of Wrath - Rina Kent

Review: God of Wrath - Book #3 Legacy of Gods - Rina Kent - November 2022

There's a peculiar disappointment that comes with watching a series you once loved start to unravel.

I fell hard for Rina Kent's Legacy of Gods series. Book #1 with Glyn and Killian? Absolutely devoured it. The chemistry, the tension, the perfect blend of darkness and devotion—it was everything I wanted in a dark romance. Book #2 maintained that momentum with solid romantic suspense that kept me turning pages. But Book #3, God of Wrath, left me feeling... uncertain about where this series is headed.

The premise started strong. Cecily participating in the Hunt was gripping, and the revelation of her own dark fantasies specifically her rape fantasy kink added layers to her character. When she signs up for an elite sex club expecting to finally be matched with Landon (Glyn's older brother and her longtime crush), the twist that pairs her with Jeremy Volkov instead had real potential. Jeremy, Annika's older brother and part of the rival US college, should have been the perfect forbidden romance setup.

But here's where it stumbled for me: the timeline.

Running this book parallel to Book #2's events felt like a misstep. I kept experiencing déjà vu, reading scenes I'd already witnessed from another perspective. It became repetitive and honestly exhausting. I would have much preferred this story picking up in the weeks after Creighton and Annika's love story concluded, giving us fresh territory to explore rather than retreading familiar ground.

That said, I can't deny the book's pull. Last Sunday, when the heat was oppressive and I was feeling indecisive about everything, I planted myself on the couch next to my partner and read the entire thing in one sitting. That counts for something.

The UK versus US college rivalry dynamic added tension, and the forbidden element of Cecily ending up with her friend's brother maintained interest. But compared to the explosive chemistry of Book #1, this felt... muted.

The saving grace? I'm genuinely excited for Book #4 Mia and Landon's story. We've barely met Mia (Nikolai's sister), just glimpsing her and her twin at that underground fight club match near the end. Fresh characters might be exactly what this series needs to recapture its original magic.

God of Wrath isn't bad. It's just not the high this series started on, and that's the hardest kind of disappointment.

Verdict: Worth reading if you're invested in the series, but temper your expectations.
