Review: Book and Bad Dates - Carmen Whitmore

If you’re anything like me, sometimes you just need a cutesy, feel-good romance to scratch that reading itch and that’s exactly how I stumbled across Books and Bad Dates by Carmen Whitmore. Sitting on my shelf as a lovely birthday gift from Bookstagram, it practically called my name with that hot pink cover and honestly, I’m so glad I listened.

Books and Bad Dates introduces us to Daisy, a small-town librarian who is as lovable as she is relatable. Like many of us, Daisy has endured her fair share of awkward, cringe-worthy, and downright terrible dates. But instead of letting those experiences fade into embarrassment, she’s done something rather magical with them ,she’s rewritten them. Under the secret pen name Rose Winters, Daisy transforms her dating disasters into swoon-worthy romance stories, giving herself the happy endings she never quite got in real life.

Isn’t that just the dream?

Things take a turn, though, when a famous romance author arrives in town to host a writer’s workshop and here’s the twist: the very books he’s using as teaching tools are Daisy’s own novels. Suddenly, the quiet safety of her secret world begins to unravel. As her library patrons eagerly devour “Rose Winters’” books, Daisy is left grappling with a dilemma that feels both terrifying and exhilarating. What would happen if her small-town community discovered the truth? Would they look at her differently… or would they finally see her for who she truly is?

This story is the perfect blend of small-town charm, writer romance, and a delightful meet-cute vibe that had me smiling throughout. Carmen Whitmore captures that warm, homely feeling I absolutely adore in romance novels , the kind where you want to curl up with a blanket, a cup of tea, and just disappear into the pages.

What I loved most was how deeply personal and empowering Daisy’s journey felt. It’s not just about romance ,it’s about finding your voice, owning your story, and embracing who you are, even when it feels scary.

If you’re searching for a lighthearted romantic comedy, bookish romance, or a cozy small-town love story, then Books and Bad Dates is one to add to your TBR immediately.

Trust me this is one of those reads that will leave you with a full heart and a big smile.
