Review: Lukewarm - Will Montgomery - November 2012

It's not very often as a reader that you find really good male writers in a romance genre. Most male authors that I've read and enjoyed are all Crime writers , but Will Montgomery has definitely impressed me as this book read almost as a biographical story rather than a fiction novel. It starts with Luke who is trying to write the next great "American Novel" - I know cliched right but as the story comes to a close you will see why this turns out to be one of those "great American Novels".  In Lukewarm, the main character Luke has a thing with romance, relationships and love and with this comes rules about balance and everyone pulling their own weight in order for a relationship to really work. The other characters in the novel are also going through romance and relationships which will become case studies in the novel. We have Luke's roommate B aka Blair who is a playboy but falls in love with a model and will soon discover that beauty can often be only skin deep and that sometimes the person you can see on the outside is not necessarily the person within. We have Luke's sister Harvi who is a successful songwriter and has a long time boyfriend Stuart, but Stuart doesn't always pull his weight and it seems that in this relationship it is mainly Harvi doing all the work and what will happen when Harvi discovers that Stuart is using her for her talents ? Will she get up the guts and courage to stand up to him and for once be the one holding all the cards and will she discover that not everyone has a good side and sometimes some guys are just bad eggs ? Next up is Kirsten or Kristen ( I can't remember exactly) who is Luke's best friend and is engaged to a youth pastor Cohen . What will happen though when it turns out Cohen wasn't exactly faithful ? This relationship showed us that even if someone proclaims to be a Christian , often their heart may not follow what they preach.
If you are looking for a book that has a small christian perspective , a male protagonist and written by a male author then this book is for you as it takes an amazing book to get me excited and this was one of them. I was pleasantly surprised by how much I enjoyed it.
