Review: Dirt Daughter - Michele Shaw

When Elena Black was nine years old, two tragedies happened . The first was the death of her friend Lizzy when they were out bike riding , as only one girl came home that night and now years later Elena is seventeen years old and it seems the case is being re-opened as Lizzy's body was never recovered and the only person who might know where she is , is Elena but of course Elena has blocked out the incident all these years but things might start to be coming to light - new evidence that could point to where Lizzy is and who killed her that night and what really happened. The second tragedy was that her Dad jumped off the bridge that night and now years later - there is a rumour floating around that the reason her Dad died was because he killed Lizzy, but that can't be right - if only Elena could remember what happened exactly that day and how things played out. During this book though, her Uncle Rick married her mother after her Dad's death and right from page one - I could sense he was a sleaze and that maybe he had something to do with the death but I will finish with the fact that the ending is a twist I did not see coming.
If you love tween/teen fiction and murder mysteries, then Dirt Daughter is the read for you - though the characters are seventeen in the book. I would say this is written and aimed for 9-14 years old and similar to the writing of Anne Cassidy and her mysteries which I loved growing up. So if you love mysteries or wanting a good book recommendation for your daughter or niece or even yourself, then check out Dirt Daughter by Michele Shaw.
