VBT# The Woman in My Home - D.L Fisher

VBT# Review - The Woman In My Home - D.L Fisher - October 2026
The Woman In My Home opens with a moment I’m sure many of us would recognise: a message lights up on her husband’s phone, and she reads it. Of course she does, who wouldn’t? She’s turning thirty in two weeks and thinks she’s about to be surprised with a birthday gift, so she’s thrilled to learn he’s bought them their dream log cabin in the Poconos, tucked beside a private lake. But when she drives out to see it while he’s supposedly away on a work trip, his truck is already there. And so is another woman. What a hook!
The double life storyline is one of my all-time favourite themes, and I’m always on the lookout for a new take on it. What makes this one different is that the woman he truly loves is the one who doesn’t have his children. Usually it’s the other way round, with the other woman as the secret, and the family at home. DL Fisher turns that on its head, and it made me look at every character in a completely new light. I found myself torn, which is exactly how I like to be.
Told in third person, present tense, the story pulls you along at a lovely pace. And the twist! I won’t spoil a thing, but it ties back to the characters’ college days and an accident that happened ten years ago. I did not see it coming, and I loved how the past crept into the present, making me want to flip back and spot the clues I’d missed.
The book reminded me of one I read years ago, Sharing You by Molly McAdams. That one also had love triangles and marriages and romances that, when you looked a little deeper, weren’t nearly as simple as they seemed. If you enjoyed that, I think you’ll find a similar thrill here.
It’s the kind of book you read with a cuppa going cold beside you and “just one more chapter” turning into the small hours. Cosy, in its own twisty way, though perhaps not a good one to read if you’re feeling suspicious of your other half’s phone!
Highly recommended for anyone who loves a domestic thriller with secrets, shocks and a heroine you can’t help rooting for.
