Review: Girl in the Arena - Lise Haines - October 2009
Girl in the Arena takes us into a future society where instead of basketball and WAGS you have GSW's , where you are only allowed to marry a total of seven times and that if a gladiator picks up your bracelet , you have to marry him. For Lyn , her whole life has been surrounded by these rules with her mother being a GSW - Gladiator Society Wife and being the only women to have married seven gladiators. Allison, wants this life for her daughter Lyn but she can't think of anything worse as she has witnessed the pain it has caused her family.  When her latest father Tommy is called up to fight, Lyn gives him her dowry bracelet to wear for good luck but things don't turn out the way Lyn hoped when he is killed by the opponent Uber. When Uber goes to pick up the bracelet , time stops for Lyn and her family as this means she has to by the rules of the Gladiator Society - marry Uber.
However, Lyn doesn't want marriage so we read as with the help of her friends Mark and his family , Jules and her husband Leo will come up with a plan to get her out of the marriage. When it comes to the crunch, the only avaliable solution will be to fight Uber and if she wins then she can back out of her contract.  What will happen though to her family and Thad if she loses ? Lyn can't afford to even think of losing EVER.
Girl in the Arena is a book that in its conclusion, you will discover the true meaning of family and love and that no matter what happens you will always make the ultimate sacrifice for your family in order for them to be safe, sound and happy.
