Review: Rumor's Out - DeAnna Kinney
Review: Rumor's Out - DeAnna Kinney - August 2019
If you are looking for a bully story but one without the darkness that is in most of the bullymances, then Rumor's Out by DeAnna Kinney is the read for you as this is a YA focused bully read. It starts with our main character Rumor named after Bruce Willis's daughter as her mum is a fan of Bruce Willis. Rumor is dating the QB and the popular Queen Bee of the school, she has a good set of friends and life is looking up for her. What I loved about Rumor is she was one who was thrust into the Queen Bee role, she wasn't bitchy or a mean girl. All is going well until a new girl starts the school Jessica and she wants Rumor's Queen Bee status and will do everything in her power to alienate and ruin Rumor. As we read the book, it's like Jessica wants Rumour's life in all aspects of boyfriends and friends. As Jessica starts to take Rumor's friends and life, we read as Rumour finds new friendships with Sam and Faith- the nerds and in doing so she will learn what it is like to have "real friends" and people who care for her. I have to admit I did want more of the reasoning behind why Jessica was the way she was and wanted Rumor out but we didn't see it in this book. Overall, though if you are wanting a Mean Girl Bully YA read, then check out DeAnna Kinney's Rumor's Out - which by all means was very tame compared to the majority of bully stories I have read and reviewed.
