Review: Let's Talk - Learning to Bowl - Lisa Jacovsky ( Multicultural Children's Book Day)
As someone whose life used to revolve around children's books, I am passionate about kids reading and the amazing books available these days. Something that I have participated in every year for several years now is Multicultural Children's Book Day where we are provided with a children's book from somewhere around the world with a theme/ experience etc to read and review. This year's book was called Let's Talk - Learning to Bowl by Lisa Jacovsky and I assumed I was matched with this one as one of the main characters Emma has autism which is a genetic disability prominent in my family line as I have had/ have family members, relatives with autism and I am sure I have some traits of it myself. This was a fun book about learning not only bowling but also working with someone with autism - behaviors and flash cards. Unfortunately what didn't sit right with me was the COVID angle which I know was a big thing with mask-wearing and in some places it still is but over in NZ. I personally don't believe in mask wearing as I saw people wearing masks and it didn't stop them from getting covid or sick. I didn't like wearing one as I felt I couldn't breathe and at times got really bad migraines from mask-wearing myself and my partner got a mask exemption. Overall, if you don't mind the Covid angle then I would suggest giving this a read, but if it does bother you then sadly give this one a miss as it might leave you feeling a tad unsettled like myself.
