Review: She's Gone - David Bell
Review: She's Gone - David Bell - November 2022
Have you ever been excited to
read a book and then something about it makes you feel let down? That's how I
felt with David Bell's She's Gone. This book has been on my reading list for a
while now to read and one I have been excited about, but the ending and the way
the book went just ruined it for me as it was like seriously WTF... This book
starts with our main character Hunter waking up in hospital with amnesia and he
learns that he crashed his car and his girlfriend Chloe is missing. The police
it seems think that Hunter drove into the tree on purpose and killed Chloe and dumped
her body somewhere. The thing though is that Hunter loved Chloe and knows that
he could never hurt her, so where is she? During the book, he learns that maybe
the girl he loved has been keeping secrets from him and those secrets might
just have gotten her killed or kidnapped. Desperate for answers and to clear
his name, Hunter makes a few videos throughout the book and goes on a journey of
his own with his sister and her girlfriend's help to uncover the truth. What
will happen though when the truth of where Chloe has been all along is revealed?
The ending and the reveal of this book, I think annoyed me as it felt similar
to Gone Girl and the way that the main female's disappearance played out with
the husband being the main suspect and then the reveal that the husband is
innocent or in this case Hunter is innocent and the real killer is someone who
wasn't obvious at all or even a suspect at all during the book as how could
they be since they aren't a big part of the book and then all of a sudden it's
like wham bam - they were the killer all along. Endings like this annoy me
personally, as I feel it a letdown after reading a great book and then it's
like this is what happened and you are left going really and how and more
importantly why???
It is the ending for me that was the deciding factor of this book getting a 3P
rating rather than a 4P.
