Review: Die For You - Lauren Jackson

Review: Die For You - Book #1 Red Thorne - Lauren Jackson - October 2023

At the beginning of the year, I saw on Instagram a new NZ company that had decided to give themselves a go at adding book bundles to their shop. At a very reasonable price, I thought I would give it a go and I am now hooked as you not only get an excellent brand-new book and good authors, but you also get a lovely bag of goodies. As many readers and followers of my blog and Instagram- NZGeekChic will know, I have only just gotten back into reading fantasy or as it's now been termed the last year to present time - romantasy. Which is romance meets fantasy - books most of us have been reading for years. Back in my late teens to mid-20s, I was obsessed with the Vampire and Werewolf world - think Bitten by Kelley Armstrong, Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris, Morganville Vampires by Rachael Caine, and of course Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. Lauren Jackson's Red Thorne took me back to that time and even better, a bit closer to home aka across the ditch in Australia. It's a world where Vampires and supernatural creatures are living amongst us and Raya is about to walk into the Vampire's Den along with new friend Alex.  At the beginning of the book, Raya talks about how she lost her sister and mum in a car crash. Her mum died and her sister vanished. Watching a recent video, Raya catches sight of someone in the background who looks exactly like her sister Cora. Raya now heads to Red Thorne to find herself as she believes her sister could be a "vampire". While there she meets Hunter - a vampire who accidentally bonds with her. Can the pair of them find Raya especially when Hunter realizes the Vampire they are chasing is his brother Kian and he's one of those guys who embody the bad reputation "Vampires" get? Die For You by Lauren Jackson is an easy-to-read book and is also a great introduction for young adults to the world of Vampire fiction. Move over The Vampire Diaries by LJ Smith and Blue Bloods by Melissa De La Cruz and make way for the Red Thorne Series by Lauren Jackson.
