Allison Wonderland - Diana Caporaso

                                                         Allison Wonderland
At the moment their is a huge speak going around about censorship in books , what is appropriate and what should be made appropriate? I have always been one for reading and enjoying books that touch base on the content that years ago would have been taboo one way or another.
They fall within the genre of "Edgy Content". Edgy tends to include in subsections drugs , alcohol , sex , illnesses- mental etc. Today's Book is one of those that fall into the genre.

Review : Allison Wonderland - Diana Caporaso

Allison is one of those girls who like to keep to herself , she is considered invisible however she views herself as more than invisible as we discover in the first chapter , describing herself to the point as she is so invisible the category of invisible does not define her status.
One day whilst waiting for the bus home ,she meets Jeremy person-to-person as everybody knows Jeremy, he's the school bad boy , detention all the time, piercings and tattoos galore. The complete opposite to Allison.
One thing leads to another and he and Allison become close friends and eventually lovers . We read as Allison is soon slowly headed towards a downward spiral as she is introduced to Jeremy's world - the world of smokes, drugs and drinking as the more Allison spends in their world, the more she forgets about the world she has grown up in. Its like they have possessed her body ,mind and spirit.
Soon Allison too will learn about the multiple vices that teens take to escape the pains of parents, friends and school. We read as Allison finds herself over her head , so much that it reaches a point in the novel that if she learns that she cannot survive the "wonderland" that her friends are providing for her instead of keeping herself alive , it maybe the very thing that will end her life . Can Allison stand up for herself and say enough is enough or will it be too late for Allison and will she find herself six feet under ?
A touching story that follows tradition of Go Ask Alice by Anonymous and Ecstasy by Kate Cann , Degrees of Guilt series by Melody Carlson and RX by Tracey Lynn , Crystal Lies - Melody Carlson and Intervention by Terri Blackstock.

Question For Readers :

Do you have any favourite books that cover the topic of Drugs that are suited to Teen/YA and Adult Fiction Readers ?

  1. I found this one a little awkward to review! It's a very heavy book. I like Edgy books but I think I may stick to something lighter. I can't remember any other books I read with drugs in them, although I'm sure there must be some. Hmm...
