Review: The Seven Year Slip - Ashley Poston

Review: The Seven Year Slip - Ashley Poston - June 2023

Where to start with this book as it was such an amazing and beautiful #meetcute story, one of those once in a lifetime love stories. The type of book that reminded me of a few of my favourite chick lit and romantic movies which included The Lake House , Just Like Heaven and Kate and Leopold. The Seven Year Slip had vibes of all those films with a touch of Sunday at Tiffany's by James Patterson and Gabrielle Charbonnet which is another one of my favourite magical realism romances. The book starts when Clementine was a young girl and her Aunt told her the apartment where she lived was magical, but there was one rule - don't ever fall in love within the apartment. Her aunt had a few other rules which Clementine enjoyed and she travelled the world with her Aunt. That was until her Aunt died and the light in Clementine faded. The book then jumps to Clementine hanging out with her friends as they all work in publishing and are scoping out a new upcoming chef James as they want to do a cookbook memoir with him. Clementine leaves before she meets the chef but one word leaves his mouth - Lemon. The book then moves to Clementine opening her eyes and finds a strange man in her apartment, also the apartment doesn't look quite right. Turns out she has gone back seven years in time and the man is Iwan - his grandmother was a friend of her Aunt's and has offered Iwan to stay at the flat for the Summer. Clem tries not to fall in love but as the book goes along, we see the sparks fly and how Clem gets the nickname "Lemon". Of course, for her this is not real - as it was seven years ago. Back in the present, Clementine runs and discovers her Iwan is in fact the famous Chef James. Has life and fate given them a second chance ? I also loved the connection of Iwan to Vera who had her own Magical Apartment time with Clementine's Aunt decades earlier.   If you are in the mood for a great #meetcute read , then you need to add The Seven Year Slip's to your reading lists as you will finish wanting this to translate to a movie.
