Review: Crown of Midnight - Sarah J. Maas

Review: Crown of Midnight - Book #2 Throne of Glass Series - Sarah J. Maas - August 2013 One of my goals this year for 2024 is to read the entire list of Sarah J. Maas's books, so I found on Instagram an order a friend had put together that combined all of her three series - this was because there is some crossover of a couple of characters/ scenes or places. I have read the first three ACOTAR books and now it jumps to the TOG series and this was the second TOG book to read. Now there must be something with the book #2's in the series as the same thing that happened with the 2nd book in ACOTAR happened with this book. The beginning and most of the story for this one felt quite slow-paced for me and I was in that mindset of "If I wasn't determined to finish her books, then this would be a DNF". I however, persevered and pushed my way through the book and it did take me three days to read - in saying that the first two days I only read a couple of chapters but by da

Review: Unsteady - Peyton Corrine

Review: Unsteady - Peyton Corinne - April 2024 This book was provided to me by HarperCollins NZ and I had been looking forward to reading it as recently I have gone back into the world of Hockey Romances. This is mainly due to that being the current trend of romances lately. A group of friends on Instagram were doing a buddy read of Unsteady, so that motivated me even more to pick it up. Here I was expecting another semi-light-hearted hockey romance like Well Played and Truly Pucked or From Puck to F##k. What I got was more along the lines of Icebreaker and Sweet Collide. In Unsteady, we have our hockey champion Rhys who is currently suffering panic attacks and trying to work up the courage to get back on the ice after he suffered a really bad concussion at a game. After the concussion, every time he saw the ice or went to step on it - the panic arose and he just couldn't do it. Our female main character Sadie is an ice skater and she is trying to balance a life of ice skating and

Review: The Good Neighbor - Cathryn Grant

Review: The Good Neighbor - Cathryn Grant - September 2019 Not sure exactly what I was in the mood for, I scrolled through my Kindle and came across The Good Neighbor by Cathryn Grant. The cover captivated me with the pink shoe lying on the road and the idea of a kidnapped child. A Missing Persons story. The story starts with Brittany and her parents moving into a small close-knit suburb, the neighbors don't know much about the family as they stick to themselves and it seems Brittany acts much younger than she is. She seems younger than her 14 years old. One night after being here a couple of weeks, Brittany vanishes and is classed as a missing person. Next door Taylor helps by making a Facebook page running search parties and helping the family with whatever they need. During the time Brittany is missing, a woman Crystal sees the post and is shocked as this is her daughter who was taken from her almost 10 years ago. Crystal contacts Taylor and is first seen as a prank messenger bu

Review : I'll Never Stop - Book #4 Hamlet Series - Jessica Lynch - March 2019 Trying to decide what to read, I went back to my early reads on the Kindle and came across Jessica Lynch's book I'll Never Stop. I quite enjoyed the other books in the Hamlet series, a small-town cut off slightly from the rest of the world. A small town where one can feel safe as everyone has your back, no matter what if they feel like you are a nice person. In this one, we meet Grace who is a ballerina and catches the eye of Thomas Mathers, a rich billionaire. Things were going great until Grace saw a nasty side of Thomas. A side of obsession, murder, and mayhem. A side where she knew if she was to be with him, he would cut her off from the world and she would become his puppet as he would control her every move. She couldn't live like that, so she has been on the run for the past three months. However, he has found her again. This time her neighbours Luke and Tessa - you will remember from J
