Review: The Bad Guy - Celia Aaron

Review: The Bad Guy - Celia Aaron - May 2017
Reading The Bad Guy by Celia Aaron felt a little like coming home.
It transported me back to my early days of book blogging, back around 2017, when my blog was only seven years old. Fast forward to today, and The Phantom Paragrapher is now celebrating 16 years! I remember when Celia Aaron first burst onto the book world, and I loved her writing then. Even now, all these years later, I still find myself excited to pick up one of her books.
And honestly? This book was exactly what I needed.
Lately, I have found myself picking up books that just haven't quite hit the spot. You know that feeling when you're reading, waiting for something to click, but it never quite does? The Bad Guy was the opposite. From the moment I started reading, it just felt right.
This is very much an anti-hero romance where the so-called bad guy might actually be the right guy, while the supposedly nice guy turns out to be... well, a complete jerk. Sometimes the person who looks good on paper isn't necessarily the person who deserves the girl.
Sebastian Lindstrom is our Bad Guy. He's wealthy, powerful, manipulative, and used to getting what he wants. What he never expected, though, was to find love. And when he finally discovers the woman he believes is perfect for him, Camille is already taken.
But Sebastian has money, influence, and plenty of ways to pull strings.
His solution? Invite Camille on a trip to the Amazon... and then kidnap her.
Yes, Sebastian is definitely not your traditional romantic hero!
His plan is simple: spend time together and Camille will eventually realise that they are meant to be. Unfortunately for Sebastian, emotions and human behaviour don't always follow a carefully constructed plan. For someone who has spent his life controlling situations, people and outcomes, falling in love proves to be far more complicated than he ever expected.
Sebastian actually reminded me a little of Dexter , if Dexter wasn't a serial killer and was secretly much more of a romantic at heart! There is something about Sebastian's complete lack of understanding when it comes to emotions that makes him both entertaining and strangely endearing.
The Bad Guy is twisted, funny, romantic and completely unapologetic about what it is. If you're a sucker for bad boys who are really just misguided, misunderstood and perhaps a little bit obsessed, then this one is definitely for you.
For me, this was a reminder of why I fell in love with Celia Aaron's books all those years ago. Sometimes you just need to pick up a book from an author who feels familiar, and suddenly, your reading mojo starts finding its way home again.
