VBT# Diary of a Late Bloomer - LML Gil

Review: The Diary of a Late Bloomer - LML Gil - June 2020
This particular book, I wasn't sure what to expect but I
was captivated by the cover as it looked so quirky and fun with the octopus on
the cover. As I opened the book and started reading, I found myself liking
the main character "Lo". In a way, she reminded me of myself and we
would have been good friends as we were just as awkward as each other. Lo
is our late bloomer. She is twenty years old, though because of her sheltered
life - she seems a lot younger and often at work and in my life - I have felt
that way and it can make me seem immature in other's eyes but it's just the way
I have been brought up that I still have a childlike nature in some aspects. Lo
has just started college and studying Political science. She has also started
to try and put herself out there more as she joins the swim team - even though
she isn't that great at it. I loved her dedication though and determination.
She also captures the attention of two guys Jackson and Martin, which for
someone who has never had a boyfriend this opens her eyes up. She also will go
through friendship waves and find herself being judged as one of her so-called
friends drops her as she can't understand why people want someone like Lo when
they could have someone pretty like her - Britney. The Diary of a
Late Bloomer by LML Gil was a fun read and one that if you have ever felt
awkward or that you don't fit in with life, then like me you will find Lo - a
like-minded character whom you can relate to. The story itself can also
be considered a Clean Teen Read and a Coming of Age Tale filled with
Quirkiness.
