Review: Pause - Kylie Scott

Review: Pause - Book #2 Larson Brothers Series - Kylie Scott - July 2021
Kylie Scott has long been one of my favourite Australian romance authors, so when I found myself in a bit of a romance slump, I decided to turn to one of her titles sitting unread on my bookshelf. I needed something comforting, reliable, and engaging—and Kylie Scott delivered exactly that with Pause. Not only did this book reignite my love for romance reads, but it also earned Leif Larson a well-deserved spot on my Book Boyfriends Shelf.
Pause kicks off with a dramatic and emotional hook: Anna awakens from a coma after a devastating car accident—seven months of her life gone. But what’s even more heartbreaking is what she wakes up to: the discovery that her husband, Ryan, has cheated on her with her best friend and the two are now expecting a baby together. Talk about a nightmare! While Anna expected to return to her old life, she instead finds herself starting over entirely.
As Anna begins the difficult process of rebuilding, she reconnects with the unlikely hero who saved her life Leif Larson. He’s rough around the edges, honest to a fault, and tattooed in all the right places. Their chemistry is immediate, but the relationship simmers slowly as they navigate life as roommates and Anna heals from her betrayal and loss. Readers of romance know exactly where this setup is heading but it’s the journey that makes it worth the read.
Leif is everything Ryan isn’t: kind, grounded, protective, and patient. Watching Anna reclaim her confidence and discover her worth is just as satisfying as watching their slow-burn connection blossom into something real. In losing her husband and her old life, Anna gains something so much better: new friendships, emotional strength, and a love that is truly worthy of her.
Fans of Jay Crownover’s Marked Men series will feel right at home with Pause. It has that same blend of emotionally bruised characters, irresistible tattooed heroes, and a strong sense of found family. Kylie Scott writes with warmth and wit, and she never shies away from the raw, messy emotions that come with heartbreak and healing.
If you're looking for a story of second chances, sizzling chemistry, and self-discovery, Pause is the perfect pick. It’s emotional without being heavy, romantic without being cheesy, and filled with characters you'll genuinely root for. Kylie Scott proves once again why she’s a staple on my romance shelf.
