Review: The Ex - Alex Sinclair - May 2025

The Ex by Alex Sinclair is a twisted, dark, and addictive psychological thriller that had me gripped from the very start — but it was those final chapters that absolutely blew me away. I can honestly say I did not see those last few twists coming, and they elevated the entire story to another level.

The book kicks off with Jack a man who once dated a woman we know only as “N.” According to Jake, she was a bit unhinged — so he broke things off. Over the years, he moved on, dating two other women, Nicole and Bianca - he reminded me a bit of a John Tucker character . Eventually, the relationships splintered after a tragedy, but one stuck: Jack and Bianca married and built what seems like a perfect life.

Fast-forward almost twenty years, and Nicole has just moved in next door to Jack and Bianca, stirring up old tensions and dangerous emotions. Bianca, it turns out, has been sitting on some dark, devastating secrets about what happened two decades earlier — secrets that, if exposed, could shatter her carefully crafted family life.

What unfolds is a masterclass in gaslighting, hidden agendas, and suspense. Mysterious, threatening notes begin to appear, and the tension thickens as the past claws its way into the present. You know the truth will eventually come out — but when it does? OMFG. That last chapter absolutely floored me. I was shocked by the reveal of the third person involved and Jack’s jaw-dropping reaction. It’s one of those rare thrillers where you think you have it all figured out — and then it hits you with a final, unexpected punch that leaves you reeling.

I’m now eager to dive into more of Alex Sinclair’s works. If The Ex is any indication of his skill with twists, reveals, and deeply layered psychological tension, then readers are in for a wild ride with each of his books.

Review: The Hoodie Girl - Yuen Wright - August 2021 Now and again, I will come across a book that I have never heard of and the author is also unknown to me and I will give them a go. This weekend, for me that was The Hoodie Girl by Yuen Wright. As readers know, I just absolutely adore the Library App - Libby and find so many awesome reads on there.
