VBT# From My Dead Husband - Rowen Chambers

VBT# Review - From My Dead Husband - Rowen Chambers - October 2026
Two years ago, Claire was trapped in an abusive relationship with Rob. She knew that if she didn’t act, she would never be free, and might not survive. So one day she snapped, had simply had enough, and did what she had to do. Now she’s building a brand new life, creating something wonderful for herself and even dating a lovely new man. Things are finally looking up, and my heart was so happy for her.
But life has a habit of sticking its oar in. As what would have been her wedding anniversary approaches, a card arrives, postmarked from her hometown. Inside is an anniversary card, written to Claire from her husband Rob. Rob, who she swears was dead the last time she saw him.
How can that be? Is it a cruel prank from one of his friends? Determined to get answers, Claire starts digging, only to discover that Hank, one of Rob’s closest friends, has recently been found dead after suicide. What on earth is going on? Is it all one dreadful coincidence, or is something far more sinister at play?
As the story unfolds, the cards keep coming, and Claire’s world becomes more and more unsettled. Her paranoia grows as she begins spotting things around her home that belonged to Rob, items he used to wear and drink. It’s the kind of creeping dread that makes you check the locks twice before bed. I found myself holding my breath more than once, wanting to wrap Claire in a blanket and tell her it would all be alright.
Rowen Chambers writes with real tension, and I loved how the little domestic details, a card on the doormat, a familiar item in the wrong place, become so deeply unnerving. It’s proof that the scariest things are often the ones that turn up in the most ordinary places.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t see the full twist coming at the end, and I was properly surprised. Always the mark of a satisfying read in my book!
If you love a revenge-based psychological thriller, and enjoyed the chills of Valentine starring David Boreanaz, then you will adore From My Dead Husband. Just maybe don’t read it alone in a dark house.
