Review: The Hiding Place - Simon Lelic
Review: The Hiding Place - Simon Lelic - May 2022
Over Twenty years ago, a young boy named Ben was hurt and left to die in a place no one would find his body. It started as a game of hide and seek but unfortunately, no one came to his rescue and found him. Now years later, his bones have been found after an anonymous tip came through the police hotline. For years, it was thought that Ben ran away, but the truth was he never left the campus. What happened all those years ago? As the police try and contact the other three friends of Ben's at the time, they better reach them quickly as someone doesn't want the truth to be revealed and when another of the friends is found murdered - the police must work double time as one of those friends is now a powerful political figure Callum Richardson and said to be quite ruthless. As this was a UK fiction mystery, it was quite slow-paced and when the killer was revealed, I did feel a bit disappointed as it was quite a big lead-up and the truth behind why Ben died was a letdown and then the cover-up of the last twenty years felt OTT despite the excuse of protecting the real murderer. If you are in the mood for a thriller where the game of Hide and Seek isn't just an innocent childhood game, then The Hiding Place by Simon Lelic is the read for you.
