Review: Perfect Pairing - Book #3 Love on the Vines Series - Amanda Chaperon - September 2024

In *Perfect Pairing*, Ezra Wendt’s life has mostly been smooth sailing since becoming the head chef at the Chateau Delatou winery. Well, except for the part where he let the love of his life, Brie Delatou, slip away . Fast forward two years, and Ezra is ready to fix his mistake. Brie, a successful bakery owner, has everything going for her—an amazing family, a thriving business, and a small town she loves—but she’s been nursing a broken heart since Ezra walked away. Now, with sparks still flying, both are given a second chance at love.

As the third book in the *Love on the Vine* series, *Perfect Pairing* hits all the right notes for a steamy, small-town romance. Despite being part of a series, this story stands alone perfectly well, meaning readers can dive into Brie and Ezra’s love story without needing to read the previous books. The chemistry between them sizzles from the start, and the story is packed with some of my favorite tropes—second chances, a small-town setting, and even a bit of culinary magic with the chef-baker pairing.

Ezra’s single-dad storyline brings a layer of warmth to the book, with his toddler son Hansen being an adorable addition to the cast. Hansen is a key player in the plot, adding emotional depth and tender moments. However, I did find Hansen’s level of speech a bit unrealistic for his age—his language skills seemed more advanced than what one would expect from a toddler, which occasionally pulled me out of the story. That said, Hansen’s role in bridging the gap between Ezra and Brie was endearing.

The small-town charm in *Perfect Pairing* is undeniable, with the winery and Brie’s bakery providing a cozy backdrop that is perfect for a fall or spring reading list, depending on which side of the equator you’re on. The chemistry between Ezra and Brie was reminiscent of the dynamic in the movie *No Reservations*, where the connection between two chefs also takes center stage.

One of the highlights for me was the fact that there was no third-act breakup—an all-too-common trope in romances that I appreciated being spared here. Instead, the story focuses on Ezra’s determination to win Brie back and the emotional journey they both undergo to mend the past and build something new. Their relationship is sweet and steamy in equal measure, and I loved seeing them work through their issues without unnecessary drama.

Overall, *Perfect Pairing* is a delightful second-chance romance that hits all the right spots with its charming small-town setting, delicious chemistry, and heartwarming moments.
