Review: These Vicious Games - MT Morgan - September 2024

Jennifer's fiancé Joshua is a compulsive gambler and when he ends up losing more than he can handle, Atticus known as The Beast of Seattle ends up offering Joshua an ultimatum - he can bet his fiancée and if he wins then his debt can be cleared and if he loses then Atticus gets Jennifer to play with. Of course, Joshua loses and Jennifer ends up being Atticus's property. We learn that Jennifer's real name is Constance and that her early life before 15 years old is a blur - she can't remember anything. The thing though is that Atticus knows exactly what happened and he wants to punish Constance for the part that she played. As the book goes along though we watch as Atticus's heart starts to slowly defrost and that despite his dark side and trauma, he wants to make himself better as he believes he can love and protect Constance, just as he has been doing ever since he first met her as a child. This book gave me Lark and Leather vibes to it with Atticus's displays of love were flowers that included various body parts or flowers in vases made of skulls of the criminals he has killed. I have to admit this was another book that exceeded my expectations and I enjoyed it more than I thought I did I even ended up suggesting it to a few other readers.
