Review: Cross My Heart - Book #1 The Oxford Legacy - Roxy Sloane - September 2023
This title caught my attention as it sounded like something up my alley and OMG it was. I have to say it ended up redeeming itself with the cliffhanger ending as it started as a 4-star read for me and then dipped in the middle but that ending pushed it back up there where it was almost a 5-star read but not quite. The book starts with Tessa heading to Oxford University to study in their graduate programme under some obscure scholarship foundation. The thing though that Tessa has an ulterior motive for joining the ranks of Oxford students, her older sister Wren committed suicide when she returned home from Oxford after her life just crashed. We learn that Wren was sexually assaulted and that was her downfall, her life she believed was no longer worth living. Tessa wants someone to pay and armed with the few facts she has from Wren; she is determined to find the culprit and make them pay. Her path takes her to a secret society filled with wealthy folk and old money aka Blackthorn Legacy and she has also caught the attention of one of her professors who also happens to be one of the members and brings her right into the dragon's den with his group of friends. One of them or all of them knows what happened to Wren and Tessa is determined to use them to get closer to the truth. What happens though when she starts to fall for Anthony St. Clair and vice versa and turns out he could be the devil she was looking for? Find out in Cross My Heart which fair warning readers had an OMFG cliffhanger which I was like NOOOOOOOOOO and I can't wait to read Book #2 as I don't want this person to be a villain as there was something about him that doesn't strike me as a bad guy. I am now looking forward to reading the rest of the series by Roxy Sloane.
