Review: Making a Play - Abbi Glines

Review: Making a Play - Book #5 The Field Party Series - Abbi Glines - August 2019

When all else fails for me, I know that no matter what an Abbi Glines book will keep my interest as it's true I recently read an article that said as we get older, we are less likely to keep our attention alive with boring books and we become more fussy. After reviewing for over 14 years, I have found that the case. The good thing though is that like most readers, I have my favorite authors and one of them is Abbi Glines.  Years ago, I started her The Field Party series and then put it to the side, so this year I decided to go back and finish the series and now I am up to Book #6 as this morning finished Book #5 Making a Play.

In Making a Play, it is Ryker's turn to be struck by the love bug - to find that special someone who will change his life forever.  This book goes deep to redeem Ryker as he was an asshole in earlier books and very shallow, but after Book #4 and seeing how words can affect people and witnessing tragedies, and watching his cousin Nash and best friend hurt himself, he decided it was time to make some changes. Book #5 introduces us to Hunter's twin sister Aurora who has just moved to Lawton, after being brought up with their mum when their parents got divorced. The other thing though is Aurora has a hidden disability, she is deaf and has learned to lip read and sign language. She has a voice but only those she trusts with her heart, get to hear it. What happens when she and Ryker have their sparks flying? Normally everything would be ok, but this is a small Southern town and some families have strong racist views running through their blood. You see Ryker Lee happens to be Black and Aurora McLay is White. What happens when her father forbids her to see Ryker and tries to separate them by sending her away? Can Ryker and Aurora prove to others that their love is true and color is just that and just like her deafness - color and being impaired do not have to be a barrier for their love to succeed? Find out in Making A Play by Abbi Glines, an awesome high school small-town romance featured around footballers and true love.
