Review: The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller - L.B Simmons - April 2014

Ever wondered how life can change so drastically in a second ? What about all the different masks that we all hide behind in order to survive ? For Aubrey Miller, when she suffered the loss of her family - her mask become a new identity and a new name. She became Raven Miller in order to cope. Growing up Raven believed that if anyone got close to her they would die as she was the bringer of death, so she did what she could to steer people away from her. That's all about to change though as she arrives at College - Titan University. Raven's roommate is Quinn  , a girl who screams "Pink and Happy" , though we will discover that this is the mask that Quinn hides behind. These two it looks like they have nothing in common but believe me, by the end of the novel you will understand why the author paired these two characters together as along the way, they are each others support beams. The other main character is Kaleb who turns out to be Quinn's boarding buddy and a guy from Raven's childhood when she was still known as Aubrey aka Bree. With each passing day and a new challenge and the help of old and newfound friends , will Raven be able to slowly develop back into Aubrey or has the damage and Raven's persona been with Aubrey far too long that she has forgotten what it's like to be herself and to be genuinely happy instead of faking it.
The Resurrection of Aubrey Miller was a gritty New Adult novel which touches base on quite a number of different issues from sexual abuse to eating disorders to death and suicide and is a novel that in many ways , we can all relate to one aspect of its edginess and also fans one of my big YAY moments while reading it was the author's reference of Rainbow Brite as I love Rainbow Brite and used to own the video and I have a t-shirt of Rainbow Brite and friends.
