#Seen (#NorthStar #1)

Review : #Seen - Book #1 NorthStar - Freedom Series - Taylor Hart - August 2019

Lately, I've been finding books hard to get into as my mind has just been distracted and I have been finding things so blah and needing books with a bit of a kick. #Seen gives us that as it is the first book in a series called NorthStar. North Star as we learn is an organization that helps save children/teens from bad situations. The book starts with Zoey who found herself in a bad situation as she ends up kidnapped and sold to a pimp. Zoey ends up being one of the lucky ones rescued and returned to her family. The guy who brought Zoey home, Cyrus aims to save children from that exact situation that Zoey was in. We learn his daughter Marcella was kidnapped and we assume sold into human trafficking.  In #Seen we jump over to the local high school where we meet Sammy. Sammy had it all, a great boyfriend, friends and on her way to becoming cheer captain - that is until in a blink of an eye it is gone. Feeling alienated, she turns to chat to a guy on her phone and he seems to be the only one who gets her. Enter Zoey and Nicholas who try to save Sammy from the same fate as Zoey as it is discovered that the guy Sammy has been talking to is part of a well-known trafficking ring and if Sammy isn't careful, she may find herself in the same position Zoey was in the beginning. Reading this book, made me realize how easy it is to fall into this trap and how thankful that nothing like this happened to me years ago chatting in chat rooms online and texting strangers was a normal thing to do and I look back now and realize how open I was to strangers and sharing and to be honest I didn't know who was really on the other end of the line. I am now looking forward to reading the rest of this series and I hope we get a chance to see Cyrus reunited with his daughter Marcella.
