31 Hours

31 Hours

Wanting a book that can be called a Christian Thriller to read , one that touches the topic of Edgy Christian Fiction ?

Review: 31 Hours by Masha Hamilton - September 2010

31 Hours tells the story of Jonas , who decided that he wanted to martyr himself by blowing himself up with a vest of explosives in the NY Subway. The story starts with us seeing Jonas's mother waking up in the middle of the night with what can only be known as the "mother's instinct" , that something is terribly wrong with her son. We go on to learn that Jonas and his mother were quite close and that Jonas had always been a little bit troubled , however as the novel gets on nobody realises how troubled Jonas's mind has reached.
We learn in the second chapter , that Jonas has entered the life of worshipping Allah and that in order to be purified he must undertake a course of action within 31 hours - hence the title of the story.
The story then like most that have the build-up of OMG something's going to happen in 31 Hours and reflects on Jonas's past from his parent's divorce to their present lives. What I enjoyed about the story was that the author also touches base and brings to life several of the minor characters involving them in much more detail to the point of explaining to the readers - that everyone we meet and have an interaction with can play or leave an imprint on our everyday lives.
Carried by Masha Hamilton s elegant and powerful prose, 31 Hours is a compelling story about the helplessness and frantic hope of the people who can save Jonas and countless others if only they can reach him in time.
