Pearl in the Sand

Review: Pearl in the Sand - Tessa Afshar - September 2010

One of my favourite things about being a Christian and having access to a bible is learning all the stories about all the wonderful christian women , who though they went through hard times -they eventually by following God's will , though it was extremely hard circumstances for most of them - God eventually provided for them , which makes them top Christian Godly women.
Last year, I read and reviewed a book called Chosen by Ginger Garrett , which told the story of Queen Esther and today's book Pearl in the Sand is similar whereas this one tells us the story of Rahab. Reading these books about what they went through , and it wasn't just the women as well - we had David, Joseph, Jacob and Moses and of course Abel which didn't end well at all. In some ways, Im glad being a Christian where I live isn't as hard as what they went through all those centuries and thousands of years ago. In Pearl in the Sand , it tells the story of Rahab's family during a drought and all the family are at their ends meet in trying to provide, families have sacrificed children tp get their blessings from the Gods ( their Idols) and as we all know that they are false gods, nothing happened. We see Rahab sold into prostitution by her parents for money to survive and we read the trials that Rahab went through, it breaks my heart to see parents selling their children off like this. As the story goes on , we see Rahab's heart hardening as she learns to mistrust all men and eventually drive herself to having low- self esteem and hating herself. Into the emotional turmoil of her world walks Salmone, a respected leader of Judah. Through the tribulations of a stormy relationship, Rahab and Salmone learn the true source of one another's worth in God and find healing from fear and rejection. This is where Rahab will discover that there is really only one God and through him all things are possible and through christ who strengthens, she can do anything. Will Salmone with God's help teach Rahab that she is worthy and teach her that it is alright to trust men and heal her wounded past ?
Find out in a Pearl in the Sand - a lovely and wonderful story that teaches readers, that no matter what we think of ourselves or how little we think of ourselves - To God we are like that Pearl in the Sand , an amazing and wonderful godly women who stands out from the rest as being special and unique.
