Confessions of a Queen B* (The Queen B*, #1)

Review: Confessions of a Queen B* - Book #1 The Queen B* Series - Crista McHugh - July 2015

Trawling through my kindle for something to read, I stumbled across Confessions of a Queen B* that has been sitting on my kindle since 2015 and decided I was in the mood for a YA read. This book introduces us to Alexis who is a Queen B* - not the popular Queen Bee which is held by her arch-nemesis Summer but Queen B that rhymes with witch. When Alexis and Summer were in 6th grade, the girls were best friends until Summer betrayed her and read snippets of Alexis's diary in the lunchroom. After that moment, Alexis decided to grow a thicker skin and then use her skills to expose others' secrets especially those who needed bringing down a notch or two aka the popular crowd. When she is paired for a class project in Life Skills, she is partnered with Brett who happens to be Summer's current boyfriend or so everyone thinks. The two are given a doll to look after that represents a real baby and you will need to feed it, burp, and change its diaper. As Brett and Alexis spend time together, Alexis’s icy exterior starts to melt as Brett brings out the happiness in her, something she has tried so hard to hide all these years. Meanwhile, on a side note, we read as Brett joins forces with Alexis to find out who is filming in the girls' locker rooms. I liked this book but felt a bit disappointed as in the end it felt like to me that Alexis was to be a side aka secret girlfriend and the book suddenly finished in a cliffhanger but not ending. Overall, despite a few parts - I would consider this YA read to be a borderline clean teen read.
