Review: Mercury Boys - Chandra Prasad

Review: Mercury Boys - Chandra Prasad - August 2021

The last couple of days I've been a bit stuck in my reading and only found a couple of books to enjoy. I wasn't sure exactly what to expect with Mercury Boys, but as I started it I found myself enjoying the book. The book starts with Saskia who has just moved to a small town with her Dad after her mum cheated on her dad with the substitute teacher. During her first week at the new school, she gets an assignment where they have to learn about pioneers and early settlers. This leads Saskia to head to the local university library archives with her new BFF Lila - here she finds a daguerreotype of the guy she is learning about - Robert Cornelius. What happens when Saskia ends up mixing mercury while falling asleep with the picture? She will find herself traveling back in time and meeting Robert. Soon she will find herself falling in love with him, the only downside though is that she can only visit him in her dreams. What happens though when she tells a new group of friends and soon the girls all have their secret club known as the "Mercury Boys Club".  What happens though when the group's reality starts to blur with their dreamworld and one of the members ends up in the hospital? Are things what they seem or is this one giant elaborate revenge game?
Find out in Mercury Boys by Chandra Prasad - a book that reminds me of The Secret Circle mixed with Christopher Pike's 90s horror stories.
