Review: You're Invited - Amanda Jayatissa - August 2022

This thriller I had been excited to read as though I hadn't read anything by this author before, I loved the whole premise behind it as it's a wedding and then the bride goes missing and several people could have harmed her or are suspects - very much in the same tradition as the classic Agatha Christie stories. The other thing that I loved about this book which added another layer was the fact it was set in Sri Lanka with a wealthy family and so with their weddings as most like their celebrations in general - they always make a big fanfare and fuss about them with a lot leading up to the main event. Five years ago, Amaya and Kaavi were the best of friends starting from childhood, the pair were inseparable and thick as thieves and like sisters. That was until they went their separate ways when tragedies occurred in both their lives. Five years later Kaavi has flourished with her charity, whilst Amaya retreated into a shell and became somewhat of a hermit. Their roles reversed what they were like in childhood and teens. Amaya wasn't going to Kaavi's wedding but then she learns she is marrying her ex-boyfriend Spencer and all bets off -Amaya must stop the wedding.  Things aren't going to be as simple as that though and she must be crafty if she is going to get anyone to listen to her as the thing is all three of them, Amaya, Kaavi, and Spencer are crafty and skilled at getting what they want and if they aren't careful - then one or more of them are about to end up hurt or dead.  You're Invited by Amanda Jayatissa was a great domestic thriller filled with secrets and twists and dark family truths. I enjoyed this one so much, that I am going to check out her other book My Sweet Girl.
