Review: These Deadly Games - Diana Urban - February 2022

After reading her debut novel All Your Twisted Secrets, I was excited to read her new book These Deadly Games. For fans like myself who love YA thrillers, then this is the book for you as we meet Crystal and her five friends who are all preparing for a gaming tournament. The tournament started with a team of six, but the rules changed and now only five of them can enter. The group decided that the first five to reach a 20K score can represent their team which means one will miss out. During the book, it really will become each man or woman for themselves and some are even willing to kill for it. Crystal Donovan who is our main female character - finds her sister kidnapped and now someone known as Anonymous1 is sending her on a set of dangerous games and if she doesn't follow Anonymous rules then her sister is dead. I have to admit about 100 pages towards the ending, I did guess who Anonymous 1 was, and then it all made sense and was in a way along the same revenge lines as other YA Thrillers like One of Us is Lying and The Cheerleaders, etc. This book was a great ride and perfect for fans of YA thriller authors like Natasha Preston and Natalie D. Richards and then the text messages reminded me of Sara Shepard's Pretty Little Liars series which is one o my favorite YA thriller series.
