Review: Two For Joy - The Magpie Society - Zoe Sugg and Amy McCulloch
Review: Two For Joy - Book #2 The Magpie Society - Zoe Sugg and Amy McCulloch - October 2021
Audrey and Ivy are back with this
mystery YA series The Magpie Society picking up where they left off at the end
of Book #1 One For Sorrow. The Samhain party has happened and there was the
Magpie flash mob and their friend Clover has vanished. For those who haven't
read the series - a girl Lola went missing in the first book and was found
murdered and Clover started a podcast to draw out the killer. In Book #2 Clover
was getting close and now has found herself a victim to the killer. Audrey and
Ivy with the help of Clover's roomies are more than determined now to find out
what Clover knew and track down the mysterious Magpie Society which was rumored
to have disbanded in the 1970s. Like the first book, Two for Joy sets the girls
on a hunt for clues as they try to track down their many leads but what happens
when they discover the headquarters of the Magpie Society and in doing so not
only learn the truth about plans that are happening to the school but a bit
about each other's families which will lead to a bit of divide in the ranks. I
did enjoy the twists and turns of this series and Book #2 but again like in my
review of All Your Fault was left a bit let-down by the ending when the true
killer and truth was revealed as you have to think, that people must have seen
what has been happening and stepped in and we were also left with unanswered
questions - like what happened to Alicia back in Georgia? How did she die and
why were Audrey and her family involved besides Audrey being best friends with
Alicia? I also had hoped for a bit more of why Ivy's mum thinks she shouldn't
have friends and why she told Audrey to be careful and watch herself and where
has Ivy been going all these past breaks? Overall, though other than a few
unanswered questions - Two for Joy - The Magpie Society was a good YA Thriller
and conclusion to an edgy YA boarding school duet by Youtuber influencer Zoe
Sugg and author Amy McCulloch.
