Review: Not the Plan - Gia De Cadenet

Review: Not the Plan - Gia De Cadenet - February 2023

After reading quite a few thrillers, I needed something a bit light-hearted and on my library holds from the Libby App was Not the Plan by Gia De Cadenet. This is one of those star-crossed political party romances. You would think that if they are on the same side then they would be friends but they are viewed as the Capulets and Montagues - a Romeo and Juliet scenario and now our two main characters Isadora and Karim are about to find themselves the stars in their own Romeo and Juliet love story. Not the Plan starts with a not-so-graceful #meetcute at the airport and then they find themselves seated next to each other on the plane. They find themselves chatting away and go their separate ways. The thing is neither of them can get the other out of their heads, imagine their surprise when they find them on opposing political sides and that if they ever were to get involved with one another - it could lead not only to them both losing their jobs and setting back their career plans in politics but also cause a major political scandal for their bosses. The pair try to work professionally, but of course, romance prevails and the pair start dating in secret. Can the pair prove that they can be professional not only in the bedroom but also in the workplace and that enemies can become lovers and not cause waves? The other thing that makes Not the Plan a good read is that it is an #ownvoices book with diverse characters, GLBTQ+, and also touches on Mental Illnesses and Domestic Abuse relationships which contained gaslighting, etc.  If you loved Ashley Winstead's The Boyfriend Candidate and Fool Me Once, then you will love Gia De Cadenet's Not the Plan.
