The Story of Water: God at Work in the Bible's Watery Tales

Review: The Story of Water - Caroline Saunders and Illustrated by Jade Van Der Zalm - October 2022

I have to admit I didn't pay much attention when I got this book as my first initial idea was the story of water, which was more an environmental type read. It wasn't until I opened the first page that I realised it was more of a Christian-based picture book when the first page stated that God created Water. As a Christian, I enjoyed reading this book as it takes us through the many miracles of the bible and events that take place in and around water. We have the story of Noah's Ark, Moses leading his people out of Egypt with the oceans parting to the wandering in the desert and the people getting thirsty and God making the water appear from the stone. At Jesus's baptism, then when he walked on water and then told his men to stay calm during the storms. Where there is water, there is life, and this book ended by reminding readers of the bible verse in Revelations 22v17 which reads "Let the one who is thirsty come. Let the one who desires take the water of life freely". Then it has references to the bible stories touched on in the book and where you can read more about them in the bible e.g. Noah and the Ark in Genesis 6-8 and finally some reflection questions and great ones to start family discussions about obeying God, doing God's will and praying to him.
This book is the perfect read for children aged 5-12 years old as can be looked at in different depths.
